Steps
Day Wear
- Start with a cute shirt that fits you well and looks good on you.
- For bottoms, go with jeans or dark wash or plaid bermudas (Yes, you can wear them!) or light colored skirts. However, if you have short legs, avoid bermudas. Capris can work, but make sure they don't look like hi-waters.
- Flip flops, sandals, or gladiators work for shoes (Just make sure they're appropriate for the occasion.).
- Your purse does not have to match, but make sure it doesn't clash. Neutrals like white, beige, brown and black work well.
Evening/Night Wear
- Again, start with a cute top. Glam it up this time around. Maybe a brighter color or a little sparkle. (Just make sure you don't look like a 6 year-old playing dress-up.)
- A cute mini or a pair of skinny jeans are great for simple evening wear. If you are not comfortable in either, wear a pair of great trouser styled dark wash jeans. The dark wash will make you look thinner.
- Depending on where you are going, you can wear a nicer pair of sandals or heels. Gladiator sandals work great for a night out.
Fancy Summer Wear
- When it comes to being fancy during the summer, don't try too hard. Simple is best.
- Look for dresses in cotton, jersey, or linen. Silky fabrics are not a good idea, as they will stick to your skin. (Even if you don't sweat.)
- Bring along a cardigan or bolero that coordinates with your outfit, just in case it gets cold.
- Cute espadrilles or heels work well. So do some flats. Look for something comfortable but still glamorous. Make sure you don't wear anything painful.
- A clutch can be your best friend during the summer. Usually, they're not too expensive, so you can purchase a myriad of colorful clutches.
Tips
- A good supportive bra is a definite MUST during the summer. Please don't go without one!
- A charm bracelet around your ankle, or a cute, feminine-looking temporary tattoo on your lower leg or ankle (such as a small butterfly or flower) can be a cute accessory with shorts and jean skirts.
- Sunglasses are ALWAYS a great summer accessory.
- Finally, great posture, a fabulous smile, and confidence (as well as a good attitude) will help not only your day, but your whole summer go smoothly!
- Make sure you count your hair and skin into the equation. Greasy skin and hair are NEVER flattering, no matter how cute your outfit is.
- Never, EVER, wear anything tight. The idea is to find things that skim your body, not squeeze it.
- Spandex are also a good idea. They'll hold you in and help you look slimmer.
Warnings
- Most of all, have FUN!!!!!
- Don't let anyone ruin your confidence. If you like your outfit, then that's all that matters.
- Don't wear too many accessories. Less is ALWAYS more, especially during the summer.
- Don't wear anything too short or too tight, it only makes you look desperate and bad.
- If you are overweight, don't think you need to stay in all summer. Get out there! You CAN wear cute outfits! Just, like everyone else, don't go too tight or too short. If you are self-conscious about your stomach, wear a baby-doll or flowing tee that skims right over your problem. If it's your thighs you worry about, wear pants or a longer skirt. Avoid wearing heels.
