Relaunch Finder on a Mac
The procedure here is to teach one how to relaunch Finder on a Macintosh Computer. This is helpful when your computer freezes. For example, if your dock doesn't magnify, assuming that is your preference, or if the apple menu doesn't drop down this will help.
Steps
Keyboard
- Press Command + Option + esc. This will open "Force Quit".
- Navigate to and choose "Finder".
- Click Relaunch. In a few seconds, the dock/icons/apple menu will disappear. It will then quickly reappear and reload everything.
Mouse
- Go to the Apple Menu. That is the Apple image on the top left.
- Go to "Force Quit".
- Choose "Finder" and click relaunch.
Right-click
- Locate the Finder Icon on your dock.
- Hold the 'option' key while right clicking on the icon.
- Select ' Relaunch Finder'.
Tips
- To Navigate to Finder you can use Tab, Shift + Tab or arrow keys.
Warnings
- Only do this when Finder is still frozen. If it is not frozen you risk losing data that might not be recovered.
