Relieve Stress from Playing a Video Game

Ever feel angry when you play a stressful video game? Use these steps to help relieve stress.

Steps

  1. Take frequent breaks. It is easy to get burned out.
  2. Relax in your bed for a while. Think of happy things. (It may sound dumb, but really try to think of relaxing things that make you happy.)
  3. Get better at the game you're playing by practicing whenever you have the chance.
  4. Listen to some angry metal or any other music if you're feeling aggressive. Listen to some peaceful music if you're calm.
  5. Take a few deep breaths and continue playing the video game.
  6. Perform some self control techniques by sitting down at a chair, relaxing all your muscles, and taking deep breaths. You should do this for about three to five minutes.
  7. If you can't relax at all, than take your stress out on a pillow. It makes sure you don't break the game.
  8. Go for a walk. Exercise can take away stress. You should do this for about 5-10 minutes.
  9. === Alternate Method ===
  10. Play a casual or sandbox game, like Tetris or Grand Theft Auto. Getting a high score and blowing up cars are great ways to relieve stress.
  11. Avoid the section of the game that you cannot beat. If you aren't good against other players, play the single player campaign. If you can't beat a boss, complete any available side quests instead.
  12. Avoid playing the game for a while. Watch TV or lie down and relax instead.

Tips

  • One of the easiest ways to relieve stress is to actually win. Try practicing in another part of the game, and going back to the frustrating part. You'll feel the frustration go away when winning.
  • Video games are supposed to be fun. If you find the need to do these things, maybe the game that is "stressing you out" just isn't for you.

Warnings

  • If you do have to throw something, be sure it's not your controller (or system, if you're playing a handheld). Games can be frustrating, but it's even more frustrating to have broken equipment.
