Remove MSN Messenger
Are you tired of MSN Messenger opening each time you log into your Windows session? If you don't use MSN Messenger anymore, there are ways you can easily remove it. See Step 1 to find out how.
Steps
Determine whether Service Pack 1 is installed
- Click on Start
- Right click on My Computer
- Click on Properties. On the General tab, under System, if the words "Service Pack 1" are listed, then you have Service Pack 1 installed.
Removing MSN Messenger from computers without Service Pack 1 installed (Which most likely means with SP2 installed)
- Make sure your Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Windows Messenger and other programs are closed before doing this.
- Click on Start, Run.
- Type (or copy and paste), without quotation marks, "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove" into the Run line
- Click on OK
Removing MSN Messenger from computers with Service Pack 1 installed
- Click on Start, Control Panel
- Double click on Add or Remove Programs
- Select Add/Remove Windows Components
- Uncheck Windows Messenger
- Click Next
- Click Finish
- Restart your computer
- Congrats ! Your computer is free of MSN Messenger!
Warnings
- By following these steps you'll delete the original version of MSN Messenger, not the recent ones.
