Remove Oil and Grease From Car Doors
Oil and grease are more difficult to clean than most other substances. When they get on your car door, they can leave stains. With a cleaning agent and some scrubbing, you can take care of this problem in a short period of time. The following is a guide on how to remove oil and grease from car doors.
Steps
- Clean dust from the car doors.
- Use a soft brush, such as a feather-duster, or a vacuum to remove dust from the doors.
- Apply a cleaning agent to the stains.
- Use a protectant cleaner if your door panels are made of leather.
- Do not use a cleaner that contains animal fat if your door panels are made of leather. Such cleaners may damage the leather.
- Use an upholstery cleaner if you have cloth or vinyl door panels.
- Check with a qualified employee at an auto supply store if you are uncertain which type of cleaner will work best on your car doors.
- Scrub the stains with a clean cloth.
- The type of cloth that you use does not matter as long as it is clean.
- Follow any directions that come with the cleaner.
- Wipe the newly cleaned area with a damp cloth to rinse off the cleaner.
- This is not necessary if you used a protectant cleaner.
Tips
- If you are unable to get tough oil and/or grease stains off of your car doors, consider hiring an auto detailer to do the job for you. Check your local phone book or perform an Internet search for businesses in your area that perform this service.
- If you take your car into an auto detailer to have the doors cleaned, consider having the entire interior detailed if you plan to sell it soon. This will increase the resale value of your car.
