Repost on Instagram

Instagram is a popular photo-sharing app, but it is not built for reposting. You may only share photos or videos that you've taken or have the right to share. You can't repost something someone else uploads without their permission as you will violate terms of use and copyright law.[1] If you continually violate terms of use, you could get your account shut down, so please remember to ask for permission to use a photo that you do not own! If you do have permission to repost, these steps will help you do so in a couple minutes.

Steps

Capturing and Reposting an Image

  1. Open Instagram on your phone. Tap the Instagram app on your smartphone to open it. Find an existing post that you want to repost.
  2. Take a screenshot of the post. Since there is no way to natively repost a photo, you will need to take a screenshot, crop it, and share it to your own wall.
    • On iPhones and iPads, this can be done by pressing the Power button and the Home button simultaneously.
    • If you have an Android device, the process may vary from phone to phone. See Take-Screenshots-on-an-Android for guidance.
  3. Press the camera button in the center. Scroll up to browse through the pictures on your phone. Select the screenshot you just took from your photo album.
  4. Put the post in the center of the crop box. Make sure to include the username of the person who originally posted it. Instagram photo's belong to the original photographer, and you can get your account banned by not asking for permission and not giving credit.[2] Press Crop when you're finished making adjustments.
    • Try to remove any borders and edges so that it looks like an actual photo instead of a screenshot of a photo.
  5. Set Up Instagram. If you want, you can filter, blur, and perform other edits on the photo before posting it. When you are satisfied, press Next.
  6. Tag the original photographer. On the next page, you can tag the original poster of your screenshot by tapping "Add People," or give them a shout-out in the caption. A caption such as "Re-posted from @username" or "Thanks @username for the post!" would do.
7. Share the photo. When you are done setting the sharing options, press "Share." You have now re-posted the post to your Instagram!

Using a Reposting App

  1. Download an Instagram reposting app. These apps allow you to repost photos from other user's profiles onto your own profile. These apps also give credit to the original poster, which will help prevent you from getting your account flagged.
    • Most apps are available for free, but may also include the app name in the photo unless you paid for it.
  2. Open the reposting app. You will need to login in with your Instagram user account. These apps have been used by many without issue, but you still need to trust them with your login information. Only proceed if you feel it's worth it, and be sure to research any app you download.
  3. Navigate to the photo you want to repost. You can use the reposting app to navigate your feed much like you would with the regular Instagram app.
  4. Repost the photo. When you select a photo, there will be a Repost button at the bottom of the screen. The location and look will vary from app to app, but generally it looks like two arrows point end to end in a square shape.
    • Reposting the photo will place it on your wall with the original photographer's name and a watermark of the app's name.

Using the Embed Code

  1. Open the photo you want to repost on your computer's web browser. You can use the Web Embed potion to post other users' photos on your own blog or website. The photo will load in a frame displaying the original photographer's username. In order to do this, you will need to open the photo in a web browser on a computer.
  2. Click the Share button. This is located on the right side of the page, underneath the Comment button. Clicking the button will open a new frame with the code.
  3. Copy the code. This code will embed the photo on your site. It will also ensure that the original photographer gets credit. All Instagram photos are the property of the user who took them, so this is very important.
  4. Insert the code in your blog or article. The code is HTML, and will automatically load the Instagram frame in the location that you place the code. See this guide for some basic HTML tips.
  5. Publish your article. The embedded Instagram photo will appear to your blog, and viewers will be able to click it to view the photographer's profile.[3]

Tips

  • Liking a photo will let your followers see that you liked it, essentially sharing it with others.
