Saying No Gifts on an Invitation
- Write it on the invitation. On the invitation politely put "no gifts please" or " presents aren't being brought" or whatever you feel is appropriate.
- Back up the message in subsequent communication. For example if they call to RSVP a subtle reminder is enough. Or if you are just calling them or happen to run into them, you can mention it.
- If all else fails, and you are still worried that they will still bring a present, call them and tell them not to. Make it an objective to do so.
Tips
- Remember that it may hurt someone's feelings to not bring a gift. Many people feel the need to bring a gift if they are close related or "special."
- Also remember that if a couple people do bring gifts. Don't open them at the party or express that gifts were brought in front of those who didn't bring gift so they do not feel bad.
Warnings
- Some people are crazy and will bring gifts anyway. Don't let it bother you.
