Sell Auto Parts on eBay

Unless you are selling an automobile on eBay, the method for selling auto parts and accessories on eBay is similar to the method you would use to sell any other eBay product. In addition to providing potential buyers with photos and the details surrounding the features of your auto parts, you can take advantage of eBay's "Parts Compatibility" tool. The Parts Compatibility tool allows buyers to determine if the auto parts you are selling will be compatible with their vehicle, even if their vehicle is a different make or model than what the part was originally intended for. Continue reading to learn how you can set up eBay listings to efficiently sell your auto parts and accessories on eBay.

Pre-Listing Preparation

  1. Determine the pricing for your auto parts. Before you post your listing on eBay, you may want to familiarize yourself with the price ranges your parts are currently selling for.
    • Review classified ads online or in local newspapers to determine how others are pricing their auto parts that are similar to yours.
    • Call local junkyards or used auto parts stores in your area to determine how much they are selling the same auto parts for.
    • Browse other eBay listings to see how sellers are pricing similar auto parts. Since other eBay sellers will most likely be your main competition, you may want to sell your parts at comparable prices.
    • Review the condition of other sellers' auto parts and set your prices accordingly. For example, if your auto parts are in much better condition than the parts listed by other sellers, you may want to sell your auto parts for a higher price.
  2. Clean the auto parts you are selling. Auto parts that are clean or shiny may appear more attractive to potential buyers when they view photos of the parts in your eBay listing.
  3. Take pictures of your auto parts. Listings with photographs included will generate a higher amount of views from potential buyers.
    • Take pictures that display your auto parts from every angle. This will allow buyers to view the true condition of your auto parts in their entirety.
    • EBay will allow you to post your first photo for free; however, each additional photo you post will cost 15 cents (0.11 euros) each.

    • Visit the eBay Motors website featured in the Sources section of this article, then click on "Sign in" at the top of the screen.
    • Enter your eBay User ID and password, then click on "Sign in." If you are new to eBay, click on "Register," then follow the prompts to create an account.
  2. Create a new listing for your auto part.
    • Point to "Sell" in the upper-right corner of your eBay session, then click on "Sell Your Item."
    • Click on "Start New Listing" to begin providing eBay with the details of your auto part.
  3. Indicate the product details of your auto part.
    • Click on "Parts and Accessories" from the category list to indicate you are selling an auto part.
    • Click on the automobile type of the auto part you are selling. You will be able to choose from categories such as boats, trailers, motorcycles, cars, and more.
    • Select the type of auto part you are selling. For example, if you chose "Car and Truck parts" as your automobile type, you can indicate your auto part as being an engine, filter, glass fixture, and more.
    • Select the name of the auto part you are selling. For example, if you are selling interior car parts, you can choose from options such as glove box, cup holder, sun visor, and more.
    • Click on "Save and Continue" to save the product details of your auto part. You will then be taken to the Parts Compatibility tool.
  4. Use the eBay Parts Compatibility tool. Using the Parts Compatibility tool may help maximize the exposure of your listing by displaying it to buyers looking for a specific auto part compatible with their automobile.
    • Click on "Search Catalog," then enter the name of the part manufacturer or complete the fields that indicate the year, make, and model of the automobile that the part belongs to.

    • Click on "Confirm Parts Details" to add the product details for your auto part to your listing. A table that indicates all compatible vehicles that can use the auto part will also be included in your listing.
  5. Indicate the condition of your auto part. This field will allow you to specify if the auto part is new, used, or rebuilt.

  9. Indicate your listing type and the price for your auto part. You can create an auction-style listing in which users are required to bid, or set a fixed price that allows users to buy the auto part immediately.
    • Listing fees will vary depending on the listing type you choose and the final price at which your auto part is sold.
    • If you need to review listing fees for each of the auto parts you are selling, visit the e-bay "Motor Fees" website provided in the Sources section of this article to view a list of applicable listing fees.

If you are unsure of the shipping prices you should set, consult with a mail or packaging service to help you determine shipping costs based on the size and weight of your auto parts.
  11. Enter the details of your return policy. You will have the option to choose whether or not you want to honor returns for your auto parts in the event your buyers are dissatisfied.
  12. Review your listing details.
    • Click on "Save and Continue," then review the details of your listing to make sure you have provided accurate information and chosen your desired preferences.
    • If you are a new eBay seller, you will be required to create a seller's account before you can submit your listing. Follow the prompts provided by eBay to submit your personal details; such as your PayPal information and mailing address.
  13. Submit your listing to eBay. After you click the "Submit" button, your posting will officially be added to the eBay motors listings.

  • If you work for an auto dealership, keep in mind that there are eCommerce solutions available that will let you bulk upload listings from the OE catalog.
