Send Free and Legal Ringtones to Your Straight Talk Phone
This article will help you get free ringtones from your legal MP3 files. It requires a little work, as none of the Free Ringtone websites out there currently work with StraightTalk.
Steps
- Give yourself Audacity for Windows and the LAME MP3 encoder.
- Open your legal MP3 with Audacity
- Trim it down to the section you want as the ringtone, you can accomplish this by selecting everything in the file except for the section you are using, and deleting it.
- Export the trimmed down file as an MP3 to a destination of your choice (you will have to point Audacity to the LAME Encoder first).
- Turn your phone's bluetooth on to discoverable mode, under the bluetooth settings menu.
- Pair your phone and your computer from your computer's bluetooth management program.
- Send the trimmed MP3 to your phone in the "SOUNDS" folder.
- Set your old ringtone!
Tips
- The typically accepted maximum length of a ringtone is 25 seconds.
- If you don't have bluetooth on your computer, you can buy a USB Bluetooth Dongle to enable it.
- Audacity comes from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ there you can also find links to get the LAME encoder.
- This will also work for picture files, only simpler, just transfer the picture file from your computer to the "IMAGES" folder while in discoverable mode.
- If you don't want to use bluetooth, you can send an SMS to your phone.
- The default path for the LAME encoder is "C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity"
Warnings
- Make sure you change the file name so you don't overwrite your existing full MP3.
- Do not steal your MP3s - that is illegal. Ringtones are only legal if the source is legal. This is made possible by Fair Use Law, but that doesn't apply if you stole the original copy before you trim it.
Things You'll Need
- A Bluetooth enabled StraightTalk Prepaid Cell Phone.
- A Computer with Bluetooth capabilities.
