Send an Email Using Gmail
You can start sending emails to friends, family, and colleagues through Gmail by following a few simple steps. Once you’re logged in, clicking the “Compose” button in the upper-left of the screen will get you most of the way there!
Steps
Desktop
- Go to Gmail.com.
- Click Create account.
- Fill in the required fields. Hit Next when you’re done, and continue with the on-screen instructions to complete the sign-up process.
- Log into Gmail. Enter your username and password and click Sign in to sign into your Gmail account.
- Click Compose. You’ll find this button in the upper left corner of your screen, below the words “Google” and “Gmail.”
- Type in a recipient’s email address.
- Enter a comma and type another email address if there's more than one person you want to send the email to.
- Click Subject.
- Enter a subject for your email.
- Type your message.
- Click the underlined A to the right of Send reveal the formatting bar. This menu bar can be used to underline, bold, italicize, and more.
- Change the font by selecting the text, clicking Sans Serif, and choosing a new font from the list that appears.
- Change text size by selecting the text, clicking the button with two T’s next to Sans Serif, and choosing from the four size options.
- Bold by selecting the text and pressing the B.
- Italicize by selecting the text and clicking the italicized I.
- Underline by selecting the text and clicking the underlined U.
- Change text color by selecting the text, clicking the underlined A and clicking a color from the menu that appears.
- Click the paperclip to attach a file. A window will appear.
- Select your file. Locate the file you’d like to attach and click Choose.
- You can also attach a file by clicking on it, holding down the mouse button, and dragging the file into the email window.
- Click Send below the message box.
Mobile
- Go to Gmail.com.
- Tap Create account.
- Fill in the required fields. Tap Next when you’re done, and continue with the on-screen instructions to complete the sign-up process.
- Open the Gmail app. If you don’t have it, download it from the App Store or the Play Store.
- Tap the “New Message” button. This is the red button containing a white pencil in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Type in a recipient’s email address. As you’re typing you may notice the recipient’s name and/or email address appear below. You can tap what appears to avoid manually entering the full email address.
- Enter a comma and type another email address if there's more than one person you want to send the email to.
- Tap Subject.
- Enter a subject for your email.
- Type your message.
- Tap the paperclip in the upper right corner to attach a file.
- Tap Attach file.
- Select your file. Locate the file you’d like to attach and tap on it.
- Tap the blue send button. It’s in the upper-right corner of the screen. Your message will be delivered to the recipients that you specified in the “Recipients” field.
