Set Your Android Alarm

All Android phones come with an alarm app pre-installed. The app has great functionality and a variety of alarm sounds. Follow these steps to set up your Android alarm.

Steps

  1. Tap the "apps drawer" button. Find and tap on the apps drawer button on your Android device's home screen. This button is either 3 or 4 rows of small blocks. On most devices, it is located above the "Home" button. This button will take you to all of the apps installed on your device.
    • Some Android devices do not have an apps drawer button, instead all of the apps are on separate screens on the Home page. You will have to scroll through the different screens.
  2. Find and tap on the "Clock" app. There is no default app on Android devices called "Alarm." However, the Clock app has an alarm among with many other functions.
    • The app is usually signified by a clock symbol, as one would expect.
  3. Find and tap on the Alarm header. Within the Clock app, find and tap on the Alarm tab located on the top of the screen. On most Android devices, the Clock app has four basic functions: World Clock, Alarms, Stopwatch, and Timer. The app usually puts these in the upper section of the app.
    • Certain devices vary what functions they offer and in their ordering.
    • Some devices also use different words to describe the functions.
  4. Find and tap on the "Add alarm" button. This button is signified by a plus symbol and is located in the upper right corner of the screen. Tapping on this icon will allow you to create a new alarm.
    • If there is already an alarm set, but you want to change certain aspects of it like time or sound, click on the set alarm.
  5. Set the time. The way you will set the time differs from phone to phone and from update to update. You may need to scroll through to set the time, or manually enter a time, or pick a time on the visually represented analog clock.
    • The app's design is fairly intuitive at this point, so it should be fairly clear how to change and set the time.
    • Be sure to choose AM or PM correctly.
  6. Write a description for the clock. If you would like, write a description to remind yourself why you set the alarm. This is useful if you want to remind yourself to do something once you wake up.
    • It is also nice to write yourself an encouraging note to help you get out of bed in the mornings.
    • This step is optional, though. The alarm will still work without writing a description.
  7. Click on the "Alarm Sound" section. This will allow you to change the sound that plays when the alarm goes off. Scroll through the list and click on each one to get a sample of the sound.
    • You can also add an alarm sound from your phone, such as part of a song or any other music file.
  8. Click on "Repeat." Under this option, you can choose which days you want the alarm clock to go off on. For example, if you select "Monday," the alarm will repeat at the given time on every Monday until unselected.
    • If you want to get up at the same time every day, select every day.
  9. Select or deselect the vibrate option, depending on whether or not you want the phone to vibrate along with the alarm. Depending on the surface you have your phone on, this will increase the volume of the alarm.
  10. Click "OK" or "Done." Depending on the device, click "OK" or "Done" to set the alarm.
    • A notification should pop up on your screen saying the alarm is set for X hours and X minutes from now if everything was done correctly.

Tips

  • Try the "use increasing volume" control to wake up gradually.

Warnings

  • Make sure you get the "AM" and "PM" right since it's easy to mix up one for the other.
