Shut Down a Cessna 150 Engine
A step by step guide taken directly from the pilots operating handbook (P.O.H.) and good practice on how to shut down your Cessna 150 engine after a flight. This article is intended to help with proper care for your aircraft's engine and is for reference purpose only.
Steps
- Come a to complete stop.
- Set carb heat cold.
- Set engine to 1000 R.P.M.
- Set parking brake. (optional)
- Turn radios and all electrical equipment off.
- Turn landing light off.
- Perform dead magneto test. (Set magnetos to off then back to both before engine quits)
- Pull mixture out full cutting fuel supply to engine.
- Turn magnetos off.
- Take keys out.
- Turn master switch off
- Install control Lock.
- Tie down aircraft. (optional)
Tips
- When you leave your aircraft, leave the beacon switch on. This is a good safety practice so you can always tell if the power is still on.
- A good tip to remember is to try to never let your engine idle. Do your best to keep the power setting close to 1000 R.P.M. this will help keep your engine clean and avoid unnecessary wear on your spark plugs and other such equipment.
Warnings
- Never touch a propeller with fuel still flowing to the engine as a swinging motion could cause it to start.
- Never leave your aircraft unattended when the engine is operational.
- Never touch a propeller with one or both of the magnetos on as a swinging motion could cause it to start.
