Sketching a dress is extremely important when you want to make a dress, so it is vital to get your sketches drawn, correctly. (this process will require much drawing in and rubbing out)

Steps
- begin by sketching a straight line down the body. this will be the center of your body.
- at the top of the line, draw a face. this shape should be flatter at the top and curved at the bottom. try to get this as symmetrical as possible.
- Then, draw in the neck. this should be approximately one quarter of the face.
- sketch a line for where you desire the base of the breasts and top of the hips. along the bases of the lines, draw in a semicircle, of which it's half point should match with the center line of your body. these two lines represent your bust and waist. the semicircles represent your breasts and lower waist.
- join the neck with the breasts and breasts with the hips, adding curves to the lines. this is your model.
- you will need to add in shoulders.
- on top of this, draw in your dress design, and rub out any lines used to create the beginning sketch.
Tips
- Sketch very lightly!
- Don't draw the sketch in pen.
- keep holding your work out and looking at it from a distance. doing this will help you spot the mistakes before you move on to work on top of them.
Warnings
- this is how I draw my models, and you perhaps should find your own way. going to a material shop and asking for advice to draw models is another good option.
