Send a Facebook Message Without Facebook Messenger on Android

This article teaches you how to send a Facebook message without installing Messenger on your Android.

Steps

Using the Mobile Web Browser

  1. Go to https://m.facebook.com in a web browser. You can use Chrome (the round red, green, yellow and blue icon on your home screen) or another web browser of your choice to access Facebook’s mobile website.
    • If you see a login screen, enter your Facebook account information to sign in now.
  2. Tap the messaging icon. It’s the two overlapping chat bubbles at the top of the screen. An invitation to download Messenger will appear.
  3. Tap Cancel. This should redirect you to your inbox, where you’ll see a list of conversations.
  4. Tap a conversation.
  5. Type your message into the message box. It’s at the bottom of the conversation.
  6. Tap Send. Your message will now be delivered to the other person in the conversation.

Using Facebook Lite

  1. Open Facebook Lite. This is a simpler version of the Facebook app available in some countries. You can download it for free from the Play Store.
    • As of May 2017, Facebook Lite is not available in the US.
  2. Tap the messages icon. It’s the square chat bubble at the top of the screen. This opens a list of your conversations.
  3. Tap a conversation.
  4. Type your message into the message box. It’s at the bottom of the conversation.
  5. Tap Send. Your message will now be delivered.
