Take Care of Your American Girl Doll's Hair
American Girl Dolls have a variety of hair ranging from short, long, straight, wavy, and curly. But taking care of this hair can be difficult if you don't know the right tricks to keep it perfect. Not only will brushing and styling the dolls hair make them look fashionable. It may even prove fun to you during the process.

Steps
Choosing Hair Care Materials
- Lightly brush out the dolls hair. This will remove any tangles or knots from the hair before misting and styling them. When picking out a brush match it to the dolls hair. For example, if your doll has straight or wavy hair, use the normal brush. But if it has wavy hair use the pick, both sold in store and online at American Girl.
- Get a spray bottle and lightly mist the hair. This will calm the stray pieces and keep it down
Be sure to brush the hair after a few mists and not drench them. Bottles made for especially their hair are sold again at American Girl.
- Collect items such as hair ties and hair clips to keep for the doll. With these items you can style the dolls hair. These styles can range from simple ponytails to complicated pullback flipped braids. Again, these styles vary from what hair your doll comes with.
Brushing the Doll's Hair
- Choose a good time to do the hair. When your doll is about to get her beauty sleep, do her hair.
- Place a face cloth over your dolls eyes and secure at the back with an elastic band. Repeat with the plastic bag.
- Fill a spray bottle with water.
- Spray your AG Doll's hair. Spray three times in three different sections. Then brush the hair from bottom to top, since the bottom is where it gets the most frizzy.
- To prevent frizzy hair don't keep them in the sun for very long.
- Keep the AG Doll's body away from water. Water can sink into the wool and mess up the cotton inside, making her less huggable.
- Also keep water away from their eyes.
- Finish up. If it's bedtime, put her pajamas on. She will seem fresh and new, as if you just got her.
Dealing with Curly Hair
- Lightly mist your doll's curly hair with water.
- Brush the curly hair using a styling pick. If you don't have one, you can get one at the American Girl Doll store.
- Take small sections of the hair and brush it once again. Then finger style it. Wrap sections of the hair around your finger.
- Curl inward for the best style.
- Done. Allow it to air dry.
Tips
- Only brush her hair now and then. Too much brushing can cause the hair to lose its bounce or even to start falling out.
- Don't brush it with a brush you use on your own hair. Natural oils can sink into your doll's hair making it frizzy and no longer soft. Always use a hair pick or/and brush and a spray bottle. You don't need to brush a doll's hair too often either; that can also cause frizzy hair.
- Clean her skin with baking soda and water if it gets dirty. This can also be used in the hair.
- Do not put her in the bath.
- You can put anything in your doll's hair that you have not used in your own hair.
Warnings
- When spraying your doll's hair, do not let the water into her eyes. The eyes can rust and fall out.
- Do not blow dry hair, only dry with towel.
- Be careful while brushing. Don't brush too hard, that might ruin the hair.
- If you are washing the doll, don't let water get on top of her hair––the wig can fall out.
