Take a Detour in Road Closures

A road closure is in the event of construction or road realigning/widening. They can also be closed as a result of an accident or weather-related events such as flooding.


  1. Take a detour when the road is in use.
  2. Follow all traffic directions. The police or Highway Patrol will give you directions and you will follow them on an alternate route.
  3. Keep a map with you in case the alternate route is not clearly marked.
  4. Use caution.
  5. Read all detour signage.
  6. Know when there is a detour in your area.


  • Do not go on a road that is closed.
  • Police will be watching you.


  • You might get a ticket.
  • You might knock over barricades.
