Throw a Four Seam Fastball
.
Contents
Steps
- Find the continuous, or horseshoe, seam on the baseball.
- Lick your fingers and dry them with dirt to get a better grip on the ball.
- Grip the ball placing your index and middle fingers across the horseshoe seam.
- Spread your fingers apart slightly, making sure your finger tips are a little bit over the laces.
- Go through your normal windup or stretch.
- Release the ball by letting your fingertips roll off the laces.
Tips
- Mix the 4-seam fastball in with other pitches. Most good batters will hit it if they see it all the time.
- Increase the velocity and movement of your fastball by moving your fingers so they touch.
- Roll the ball off your index finger for more spin and accuracy.
- If you start to lose control of your fastball, just relax and try not to throw it as hard.
- Hip rotation will help create leverage and increase speed.
Warnings
- Trying to throw the 4-seam fastball too hard can cause severe damage to your elbow and shoulder. Not overthrowing the ball puts less strain on those areas of the body.
