Tint a Motorcycle Full Face Helmet Visor

So you've spent a small fortune on a motorcycle full face helmet. It fits perfectly, compiles with all legal requirements for your location and looks great with your bike....but, you want to ruin it and possibly make it totally useless just by tinting the visor - here's how. Get started at step one below.

Steps

  1. Trim the dark shield to cover the top portion of the visor using the following procedure:
    • Mount your bike in your normal riding position, wearing your full face helmet, with clear visor.
    • Mark the visor (masking tape) just above your line of sight as you look forward as if you were on the highway.
    • Cut the dark shield length-wise to a width that will cover the entire front of the visor, from the top of the visor down to the line of sight mark.
  2. Trim the light shield to cover each side of the visor out to a point (see photo) where your peripheral vision is not affected, but sunlight will be blocked from each side.
  3. This application of the shield material allows (you) to wear clear lens glasses to be able to see the screen of a GPS and at the same time blocks all of the glare from the sun irrespective of the time of day, and when it gets dark, you can still drive safely.
  4. At sunrise or sunset if you are driving directly toward the sun simply tilt your head down just a bit to bring the dark shield above your sight-line into play to block the sun.

Tips

  • Use very sharp scissors to cut the shield material. The tint-a-shield brand is a bit expensive but adheres as advertised to the visor.
  • Buy a full face helmet with a built in tinted visor
  • Buy a helmet that allows you to wear sunglasses with it.
  • Buy a helmet without a visor and some tinted goggles.

Warnings

  • Don't use any tinted goggles, glasses or visors and night when riding a motorcycle. It's illegal in some places and internationally stupid.

Things You'll Need

  • Two tint-a-shield tinted visor covers, one dark and one light, or suitable substitute tinting material.
