Unfriend on Facebook

Do you have a Facebook friend who plays Farmville or Bejeweled Blitz all day while you have to read about it? Are this person's posts getting so annoying that you just don't want to be friends anymore? Or have you broken up with your boyfriend, so you want to ditch him from your Friends list? Follow these steps to delete friends on Facebook: Your friends will never know. Or if you don't want to cut your friend off altogether, you can block certain posts without deleting your friend from your list.

Steps

Delete a Facebook Friend

  1. Log into Facebook.
  2. Navigate to your profile page and click on your Friends box.
  3. Find the friend you would like to not be friends with anymore, and hover over their name until a box appears. If you have a lot of friends, you can search for a specific one in the search box.
  4. Hover over the Friends checkmark, then click Unfriend. In addition to deleting this person from your Friends list, you will also delete yourself from his or her Friends list.
  5. Finished.[1]

Block Posts from Your News Feed

  1. Find your friend's latest post on Facebook. Hover the cursor over the drop-down menu at the top of the post.
    • Select Hide from the drop-down menu.
    • Choose Change What Updates You Get.
    • Pick the statuses that you want to see.
  2. Hide posts from annoying Facebook games.
    • Go to the drop-down menu in the top right corner of the post.
    • Choose Hide All By _____ to see no future posts from the game.
  3. Use your friend's timeline to control the posts that you see.
    • Navigate to your friend's timeline and hover over the Friends button at the top.
    • Choose Show in News Feed to turn their updates on or off.[2]



Tips

  • If you block posts from someone and decide later that you want to unblock them, go to News Feed in your left sidebar and press the pencil icon. On the pop-up menu, click the "X" next to the person's name if you want to remove them from the list.
  • A warning message will not be sent to your friends, so feel free to delete as many friends as you want. Keep in mind that deleted friends will still be able to see your comments on content that is posted by a mutual friend. You will see their comments as well.

Warnings

  • If you want to re-friend the person, you'll have to send another Friends request.
  • If the person has "Unfriend Finder" installed (an extension for Firefox), your former friend may receive a notification of deletion from your Friends list.
