Unzip a File or Folder With Winzip

You just downloaded something off the internet, and it turns out to be a .zip file. While Microsoft's built-in extracting software is helpful, it doesn't have quite have the power or usefulness that WinZip has to offer. Now you can open it, install it, sort the files, and even make .zip files of your own, all in one, simple, easy-to-use program.

Steps

  1. Download the WinZip software from a trusted download site, such as C-Net's download.com, or WinZip.com.
  2. Install the WinZip software.
  3. Locate the .zip file of your choice.
  4. Click on "Use Evaluation Version"
  5. Select all of the files you want extracted to a normal file.
  6. Press the "Unzip" button at the top. Another window will appear. Choose the folder you want to put the files in, and press "Unzip".
  7. Go to that folder and you will see that the files have been extracted.

Tips

  • Winzip is not entirely free, even on a trial basis. It requires purchasing one of a number of other products, a few of which are "free," but only for a week or so -- and they require credit card info, so that if you don't cancel they can start charging you.
  • Make sure to extract the files into the correct folder!

Warnings

  • Download WinZip only from trusted and well-known sources. Third-Party Sites can lead your computer to be full of Spy-wares, and Ad-Wares.
