Update iTunes
If you're using a Mac, open iTunes. If a screen pops up asking you whether you'd like to download the latest version, accept. Click on iTunes in the toolbar and choose "Check for Updates." Click "Update" and wait for your download to finish. If you're using a PC, search for "Apple Software Update" in the Start menu, click the "iTunes Update," and choose "Install."
Steps
Updating iTunes on a Mac
- Open iTunes. You can find iTunes by clicking on the musical note on your dock on the bottom of your screen.
- If you don't have it on your dock, you can search for it in Spotlight, which is the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of your screen. Just click on the magnifying glass and type in "iTunes" and click on your iTunes when it pops up.
- Click "Download iTunes" if asked. If a screen pops up that asks you if you'd like to download the latest version of iTunes, click "Download iTunes." If this happens, you're lucky, and have opened your iTunes just after a new version was ready. Just wait for your computer to download and install the latest version of iTunes, and restart your computer when it's done.
- It's more likely that you've been asked to download the newest version of iTunes before, and turned it down. If so, skip to the next step.
- Click on "iTunes." You can find this option on the top left of the iTunes toolbar.
- Click on "Check for Updates." This option is fourth from the top of the iTunes drop down menu.
- You can also click on the "Help" option to the top right of the iTunes toolbar, and search "Updates."
- You will be taken to the Updates Tab in "App Store" window. If you don't see iTunes in the list of updates, it means that you do have the most current version of iTunes.
- Click "Update." You should see that iTunes will start downloading.
- Wait for the download to finish.
- Restart your computer.
Updating iTunes on a PC
- Open your web browser.
- Click the "Start" menu.
- Search and select the "Apple Software Update."
- Check the "iTunes Update." If this option does not appear, it means that you have the most current version of iTunes.
- Click "Install."
- Restart your computer when the update is finished.
Tips
- If you haven't updated your iTunes in awhile, make sure that you have the time to wait out the installations before you have to use iTunes again.
- Find out the release date for the next update before you update your current version. If iTunes 11.0 will be available tomorrow and you're updating from version 10.8 to 10.9, wouldn't you rather just wait another couple of hours?
