View Browsing History

Are you worried that something in your browsing history will come back to haunt you? Did you accidentally close the page you were using, and need to quickly get back to it? All browsers store browsing history, which allows you to quickly see where you've been and when.

Steps

Google Chrome

  1. Click the Chrome menu button (☰). This is located in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select History. This will open a list of all of your stored browsing history. Alternatively, press Ctrl + H to open this page directly.
    • If you are signed into Chrome on multiple devices, all of your synced browsing history will be displayed. You can see the different devices at the top of the page.
  3. Search your history. Use the search bar at the top of the History page to search your history records. Results will be displayed in the main list.
  4. Browse your history. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click the "Older..." link to load the next page of entries.
  5. Remove individual entries by checking the boxes. Click Remove selected items to delete all of the entries you checked.
  6. Click .Clear browsing data... to clear your history. Make sure that the "Browsing history" box is checked.

Internet Explorer 9 and Newer

  1. Click the ☆ (Star) icon in the upper-right corner.
  2. Click the History tab. Now you can view your search history by date.
  3. Use the drop-down menu at the top of the frame to change the view. Each of these "View[s]" are useful in multiple ways.
  4. Search your history. Select "Search History" from the drop-down menu to pull up a search bar that will allow you to search for specific entries.
  5. Delete individual history entries by right-clicking on them by selecting Delete. You must delete entries one at a time, though you can delete entire folders at once using the same method.
  6. Clear your history.1. To delete your browsing history, click the gear icon.
    2. Click SafetyDelete Browsing History.
    • Make sure the "History" box is checked.

Internet Explorer 8 and Older

  1. Click Favorites. It is located in the upper-left corner of the window.
  2. Click the History tab. Now you can view your internet history.
  3. Use the drop-down menu at the top of the frame to change the view. These "View[s]" are useful in multiple ways.
  4. Search your history. Select "Search History" from the drop-down menu to pull up a search bar that will allow you to search for specific entries.
  5. Delete individual history entries by right-clicking on them and selecting Delete. You must delete entries one at a time, though you can delete entire folders at once using the same method.

Safari for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

  1. Open the Safari app. Its logo is a blue compass.
  2. Tap the Bookmarks button (it looks like an open book). Then select the Bookmarks tab if it doesn't open to it automatically.
  3. Tap the "History" option (its logo is a clock). Your internet history will be displayed sorted by date.
  4. Browse your history. Scroll through your history to find the entry you want.
  5. Delete individual entries by swiping them from right to left. Tap the "Delete" button that appears.
  6. Delete your browsing history.1. To delete all entries, tap Clear.
    2. Tap Clear All History.

Google Chrome for Android and iOS

  1. Open the Chrome browser on your mobile device.
  2. Tap the Chrome menu button (either ☰ or three vertical squares). A list of options should result.
  3. Select History. Your synced browsing history across all of your devices will be displayed in a new tab.
  4. Search your history. You can use the search bar at the top of the list to search for a specific entry, or you can scroll through the list, which is categorized by date.[1]
  5. Delete individual entries. Tap the "X" next to each one you want to remove.
  6. Clear your history. Tap Clear Browsing Data... at the bottom of the screen.1. Then, on Android, ensure that the "Clear browsing history" box is checked, and then click Clear.1. Then, on iOS, tap Clear Browsing History, and then tap Clear Browsing History to confirm.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click the Firefox (☰) menu. This is located in the upper-right corner of the window.
  2. Click the History option. This will display a list of your recent history.
  3. Click "Show All History" at the bottom of the menu. This will open the Library window, which will allow you to manage your browsing history. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Shift + H to open this window directly.
  4. Search your history. Use the search bar at the top of the Library window to search for specific history entries.
  5. Delete individual entries by right-clicking them. Select Delete This Page.
  6. Clear your history. You can clear all of your browsing history by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Delete. Make sure the "Browsing and Download History" box is checked.[2]
  7. View history on a mobile device. To view your History on Firefox for Android, open a new tab in your Firefox browser. At the top of the window, underneath the address bar, you will see a menu. By default, it will be set to "Top Sites". Swipe from left to right to open the History page.
    • Press and hold individual entries to get the option to remove them.
    • Tap the menu button, tap Settings, tap Privacy, and then tap "Clear private data" to remove your entire browsing history. Make sure that the "Browsing & download history" box is checked.[3]

Safari for OS X

  1. Click the History menu. This is located in the top menubar, between "View" and "Bookmarks".
  2. Browse your history. Your 10 most recently-visited pages will be shown in the menu. Any other entries will be listed in the submenus, organized by date.
  3. Clear your history. Right-click the entries you would like deleted, then click Delete.
    • Click the "Clear History" option at the bottom of the History menu to delete all the entries. You will be asked to confirm this before they are deleted.

Opera

  1. Click the Opera menu. This is located in the upper-left corner, above the browsing tabs.
  2. Click the History option. This will open a new tab labeled History, which will display al of your recently-visited pages.
    • Alternatively, press Ctrl + H to open this tab directly.
  3. Browse your history. You can use the menu on the left side of the History page to browse through past dates, or use the search bar to find specific entries.
  4. Clear your history. To delete your history, click the Clear browsing data... button. Make sure that the "Clear browsing history" box is checked.[4]

Other Browser

  1. Open the Tools or Settings menu. This is typically indicated by a Gear or ☰ icon.
  2. Select "History" or "Browsing History" from the menu. This should open a list of your recently-visited pages.
    • Many browsers let you view the history by pressing Ctrl + H (Windows) or Command + H (Mac).
  3. Delete individual entries by selecting them and clicking the "Delete" or "Remove" button. You may be able to select multiple entries to delete at once.
  4. Delete all history entries by clearing the browser's history. You can usually do this from the History menu you are currently looking at, though some browsers need to be cleared from their general Options or Preferences menu.

Tips

  • Most browsers allow you to browse in Private mode, which will not store the history for that session. See Activate-Incognito-Mode for instructions on how to activate it in most browsers.
