Wake Easily for School

Are you having difficulty getting up in the morning for school? Do you not feel like waking up? If so, this is the guide for you!

Steps

  1. Go to bed early. Teens need at least 7 hours of sleep, and 8 or 9 would be preferable. The older you are, the less sleep you need. So, in order to awake, say at 6am, you'll need to be in bed by 10:30 pm at the latest.
  2. Set your clothes out the night before. By doing that, you won't be stressing while going to bed about what clothes you'll pick in the morning.
  3. Have your hygienic items out and ready the night before. This can quicken the time. You won't have to go through millions of drawers just to find some lotion.
  4. Have a trusty alarm clock. Does a parental unit awake you? Sometimes they don't wake up as well: they're humans, you know. Make sure your alarm clock is set to go off at the correct time. Have it tuned to your favorite radio station for fun songs in the morning! Another alternative is an iHome for an iPod. You can wake to your iPod music instead of beeping or the radio.
  5. Don't spend half of the night reading, watching movies, listening to music, etc. If you're a person who reads at night to fall asleep, it's better if you conserve your reading for another time. Books can drag on and on, and you'll lose track of time!
  6. Make up a morning routine. Write it out on a sticky note and post it near your bedroom door. Such as: Wake up: 6am; Get dressed: 6:10; Eat breakfast: 6:15; etc.
  7. If you have to have a bath or shower straight after you've woken up (still sleepy) when your alarm clock rings, run to the bathroom, go to the sink/basin and splash cold water on your face, it will wake you up quicker.
  8. If you eat breakfast at home, plan to have something dry the night before as this saves you from having to look through the cabinets in the morning. Also, don't go back to sleep.

Tips

  • If it's a cold day or you live in a generally cold area, you might not want to get out of the warm covers. So, just think of the nice warm clothes you'll change into later. Or have some cocoa/coffee near by to drink. Also, half an hour before you go to bed, turn on the heater, then when you're about to go to bed, turn it off and shut your bedroom door. This should keep the warmth in from the heater.
  • Slippers are always a good thing to keep near if your feet get cold easy.
  • Lamps work well. If you have a lamp of some sort in reach of your bed without getting up, turn it on right as your alarm clock wakes you. It'll force you to get up and get used to the light. You don't even have to turn it on all the way, but just enough so you can see your bedroom door. And if you get up early you have to do what ever(:(:
  • If you make yourself get out of bed and walk to the bathroom, you'll probably be awake enough to carry on through the rest of your morning routine.
  • Put your pillows in the freezer before you go, you will wake up in the morning, flip them after one side gets warm and have a few extra. Also have one not frozen if you watch TV at night.
    • If you still can't wake up, try putting your alarm clock across the room, so you have to get out of bed to shut it off.
  • When you take your shower(or bath), take a cold one. If you take a warm one you can stand there just feeling great, and lose track of time. Don't take an icy one, just a cold one. ;)
  • If you have curtains, open them, to let some light in. It'll make you feel more awake, and you won't be tired and go back to sleep.
  • If you sleep through your alarm and you will be late then just put your phone in a plastic cup and it will make your alarm go 3-5 times louder.
  • If you are able to, put different alarms with different sounds around your bedroom. Then set them all at for the same exact time. It will cause a racket and you will have to get up and walk around the room. By then, your blood will be pumping a little faster, which will give you enough time to run to the bathroom and splash your face with cold water.
  • Set your shoes out so you don't have to pick shoes out in the morning.
  • Think of good, positive things like your friends and family or change your alarm clock for an hour earlier so you wake up easier.
  • Know your routine before you do it make sure you wake up extra early because if you fall asleep you can still have time to get ready.

Warnings

  • If you sleep in the same room as a sibling, you need to work-out the routine with them, just in case they don't like music blasting in their ears in the morning.
  • Make sure that everything you urgently needed to do (homework, making your lunch etc.) is done so you're not feeling stressed when you wake up, but calm and relaxed!
  • If you don't have curtains, or the light shines brightly through them, you might wake up before your alarm clock wakes you.
