Work with a Job Counselor

Are you looking for a job, but what you have been doing just wasn't working? You can really benefit from visiting a job counselor. They can help you focus your attention about where you should look and what you should be looking for.

Steps

  1. Research your job counselor.
  2. Make Yourself Relax. The job counselor is there to help you and hopefully help you with advancing your career.
  3. Be involved. Don't just go to their office and listen to them. That won't get you anywhere. More than likely, that is what you have been doing.
  4. Make sure your expectations are realistic. Don't be under the misconception that you will go see your job counselor and you will have a job. It doesn't work like that.
  5. Be honest, both with yourself and your counselor.
  6. Have specific goals. Put some thought into it. If you don't know what you want to do or not to do, all you are having is a conversation. The counselor will help you focus, but you have to have something to focus on. Write it down in a notebook. In fact, dedicate a notebook to that.
  7. Think about it, of course, and act. Action, or inaction, will make or break your success.
  8. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself. You won't advance if you don't challenge yourself, at least a little bit.

Tips

  • Understand that to be successful, you will need to step out of your comfort zone.
  • Check the reviews of your potential counselors. Be aware that there are always unhappy people, so don't believe everything that you read, but if the majority of reviews are positive, you have a possible counselor.
