Write a Description of Long Term Career Goals

As anyone ever asked you "where do you see yourself in 5/10 years"? Your answer would be an example of a long-term career goal. Choosing a long-term goal for yourself is not easy, but is very beneficial. Read on to learn how to do this.

Steps

  1. Comply a list of jobs/careers to investigate:
    • Write down any "dream jobs" you have. As a child, it is very common to have a dream job, but adults tend to ignore their fantasies as being unrealistic.
    • Think about things you are passionate about. These can be very broad, like animals, or very specific like knitting baby blankets. Write down jobs/careers associated with these interests.
  2. Research your chosen jobs to learn more about them. Pay attention to things you would need to do to accomplish them.
  3. Remove from the list any jobs you deem as unrealistic.
  4. Choose a job/career from your list as your ultimate goal. Using your research, break down each step it will take to get to that point, making sure to determine how long each step will take. This list is actually your goal plan, complete with a time line.
