Add Emoji to Twitter

Emoji can add life and personality to your tweets. You can express more with these pictures or icons in less space than with text. Default keyboards for your computers and your mobile devices may not have emoji buttons, so you’ll need to use external sources to bring color to your tweets. If you tweet using your computer’s browser, you can just copy and paste emoji from other sites or posts. If you tweet using your mobile devices, you will need to use an emoji keyboard, either one preinstalled on your device or a third-party app that you will need to install.

Steps

Adding Emoji on Twitter.com

  1. Log into your Twitter account. Open a new browser tab or window, and visit the Twitter home page (twitter.com). Enter your registered email address and password into the login fields at the top right corner, and then click the “Log in” button.
  2. Type your tweet. Use the tweet box on the top part of the page and type your tweet. Do not click on the “Tweet” button yet.
  3. Visit an emoji site. Open another window or tab on your browser. Go to any site that has emoji for you to copy by searching “emoji for Twitter.” There are lots of these sites available. A few of the more popular sites include:
    • emojipedia.org/twitter-emoji-list/
    • piliapp.com/twitter-symbols/
    • fsymbols.com/emoji.
  4. Copy the emoji you want to use. Browse through or search from the emoji site the emoji you’d like to use with your tweet. Highlight it then copy it to your clipboard (Ctrl+C for Windows or Linux; Command+C for Mac).
    • Some websites, like fsymbols.com, will automatically copy the emoji when you click it.
  5. Paste the copied emoji to the tweet. Go back to your unfinished tweet and paste the emoji (Ctrl/ Command+V). You can repeat copying and pasting more emojis to your tweet if you want.
  6. Send the tweet. When you’re satisfied with the emoji and your tweet, click the “Tweet” button right below the tweet box. Your tweet will appear on your wall, and it will be seen by all your followers.

Adding Emoji on the Twitter Mobile App

  1. Launch the Twitter app. Locate the app on your mobile device. The app icon has the Twitter logo on it. Tap on it.
  2. Log in if you aren’t already. If you’re not logged in yet, you will be asked to do so. Enter your registered email address and password into the fields provided, and tap “Sign in” to continue.
  3. Type your tweet. Tap the “New Tweet” button on the top right corner of your screen to bring out the tweet window. Type your tweet here, but do not tap the “Tweet” button yet.
  4. Change the keyboard of your device. Most likely, the default keyboard of your mobile device doesn’t carry emoji. Change your keyboard to one that has emoji. On iOS, tap the World or Smiley-face button on the keyboard until you see the emoji keyboard. On Android (version 4.0 and later), select the emoji keyboard from the notifications menu or tap the Smiley-face button on your keyboard.
    • If your device doesn’t have an emoji keyboard or if you prefer a different one than what’s built-in, you can go to the App Store for iOS or the Play Store for Android and download an emoji keyboard. Swype, SwiftKey, and Minuum are a few of the popular keyboards that offer emoji.
    • Click here for instructions on adding emoji to older Android devices.
    • Add-a-New-Keyboard-in-iOS for instructions on changing your iOS keyboard.
  5. Select the emoji you want to add. Once the emoji keyboard has been selected, you can tap the emoji you’d like to use with your tweet. Repeat as necessary to add more emoji to your tweet.
  6. Send the tweet. When you’re satisfied with the emoji and your tweet, tap the “Tweet” button on the top right corner of the tweet window. Your tweet will appear on your wall, and it will be seen by all your followers.
