Be Interesting to Other People

Being interesting to other people means being an interesting person. Get involved, switch on and start the charm.

  1. Talk to others and really listen to them. If people like you, they will want to know more about you. You can always use the information you got from them in later conversation, but DON'T gossip!
  2. Read at least one book (non school if you are a student) a month. Try to read a different type of book each time and then recommend them to your friends afterwards. Maybe start a book club.

Steps

  1. Like yourself and be confident.
  2. Be confident, or else people will see you as a weakling with nothing worth while to say. You can fake confidence by standing up straight, holding your head up high and smile a lot. Just be friendly! Once you get use to it, confidence will come naturally.
  3. Read newspaper articles everyday so you can talk about up to the minute topics. If you are not much of a newspaper reader, then go to an online newspaper and just read the headlines, so you can at least say "I heard about that" when someone mentions something they saw or read about. Ananova offers a wonderful news section with weird and strange news tidbits you can discuss with your friends.
  4. Take up a hobby. Some hobby ideas are:
    • Photography is quite cheap these days because everyone has a digital camera somewhere. Make a Flickr or Picasa account and post them on there so you can give the link to your hobby to friends.
    • Biking
    • Painting
    • creative writing
    • Yoga/Pilate's
    • Collecting (something other than STAMPS!!!!)
    • Salsa dancing
    • Target shooting
    • Model building
    • Sailing
    • Hiking
  5. Try something "younger" or "older" depending on your age
  6. Remember to include people in your hobbies. They will want to be part of your life if you are interesting.
  7. Collect magazine articles that taught you something new and make a scrapbook with them. When your friends come to you with a problem or question, maybe you can find the answers in scrapbook. You will seem well rounded.
  8. Use your imagination, be creative. Be creative in conversation, think around the corners and surprise friends and family with your responses.
  9. Learn new words. Subscribe to a "word of the day" email on line and then try to use the new words in conversation daily. People will think you are well schooled, even if you've only ever finished High School.
  10. Listen to music! Even if you listen to music already, try new styles. If you never listen to Jazz, try some light Jazz. If you never listen rock music, try some!
  11. You can actually find loads of "undiscovered" bands and singers online. Tell your friends about them, rant and rave and go to live performances. Drag your friends along and open their world to new things.
  12. Don't talk about your daily life all the time!
  13. If you are a student, don't talk about homework/teachers and term papers, even if its all you have on your mind.
  14. If you are a stay at home mom, don't talk about how cute your kids are and how well they did in ballet all the time.
  15. Don't talk about sales you made at work all the time
  16. Broaden your scope of conversation as much as possible!!!!
  17. Your environment does not make you the person that you are; you are who you are from the inside out, not the other way around!
  18. Try a new restaurant that serves food that you have not tasted yet. Go to a Thai restaurant, or Filipino...try something new and if you like it, next time invite all your friends to go with you.
