Be a Gryffindor

Ah, Gryffindor. You simply adore this house. Harry was in it. Ron was in it. Hermione was in it. Ginny was in it. Why can't you be in it, too? Nobody's stopping you. Most of the main Harry Potter cast was in Gryffindor, and so you can read on how to be a true Gryffindor! Just follow these steps for a real Gryffindor result.

Steps

  1. Become one with the inner Gryffindor. If you want to be a Gryffindor then you have to think about their qualities, brave, loyal and loving. You have to be a Gryffindor in and out.
  2. On the Harry Potter and the Philosopher/Sorcerer's Stone DVD, you may find that if you insert it into your computer, you can be sorted by the one and only Sorting Hat. Cross your fingers it says Gryffindor.
  3. Sign up for Pottermore (http://www.pottermore.com) and move through to chapter seven where you try on the Sorting Hat and answer some simple questions to find your house. Again, cross your fingers!
  4. Correct anyone who spells Gryffindor wrong. It's a disgrace to Gryffindors everywhere. Most HP non-fans will spell it "Griffendor", "Griffindoer", or the common mistake, "Griffindor". Politely correct them, and for HP fans, add "I thought you ought to know that."
  5. Research Godric Gryffindor, founder of Gryffindor House. Look him up on Wikipedia and the Harry Potter Wiki. You will find interesting facts which will help you on your way to Gryffindor life.
  6. Remember: Scarlet and gold all the way! You can substitute gold for yellow, but you may look half-Hufflepuff then. Yes, they're sweet, but we're talking Gryffindor here. Find scarlet and gold scarves, gloves, hats and shoes. Just use a black robe for your uniform, and for the finishing touch, add a Gryffindor badge (which you can find from the HP website) to your uniform.
  7. Speak like a Gryffindor. Since it's Hogwarts, most of the Gryffindors have a British accent, so try to practice that. Unless you're trying to be Seamus, in which case, speak like you're from Ireland. Use a few slang words
  8. Keep in mind of your manners. Most Gryffindors are polite, dignified, and a bit modest. Have you seen Harry? Open doors for people, help old ladies cross the street. You may be a bit of a sissy, but that's better than being a bully.
  9. Remember your courage, too. Most Gryffindors are brave (pardon Peter Pettigrew) and love adventure. Discover a plan from your school. See in advance which teacher your crazy old professor's going to marry. Dig for treasure. Discover a secret artifact. Anything's possible, as long as you think you can do it.
  10. Call different groups of people different names. (You can just think it if it might offend them.)
    • Ravenclaws: Smarties. People you get along well with. People who are a bit shy and bookish.
    • Hufflepuffs: Crazy, unexpected people. People with a love of cooking. Preferably a little bubbly around the waist.
    • Slytherins: People you can't really work with. Nope. People who you think are loony.
    • Snape: The professor you know who hates you,but has a soft spot deep, deep down for you.
    • Death Eaters: Natural enemies.
    • Voldemort: Your one and only mortal enemy.
  11. Show your pride by decorating your room with Gryffindor furniture! Add scarlet and gold/yellow beanbags, flags of Gryffindor (usually red and gold striped), red bedsheets, yellow cabinets, and an owl for the HP look.
  12. You're done! Keep repeating these steps until you are a true Gryffindor.

Tips

  • Be brave. That doesn't mean having no fears, it means facing them.
  • Always use your manners and never act snooty.
  • Buy all the books and movies, when released. This will help you study natural Gryffindor behaviour.
  • Be relaxed and calm most of the time.
  • Stay clean. You wouldn't catch Hermione having a drink.

Warnings

  • Never attempt to cheat to be sorted in Gryffindor on Pottermore. It won't help you, the questions are randomized and Gryffindor isn't the only "best" house. All houses have the same greatness, but each have their own traits and beauty.
  • If visiting the U.K (specifically England or Ireland) don't try to speak with an English or Irish accent. They will think you're mocking them.
  • Don't become too obsessed with Gryffindor. Too much of a good thing is unhealthy.
  • Don't make fun of other people because of what house their in, because if you do, you will be acting like a Slytherin more than a Gryffindor.
