Create a Harry Potter Bedroom

You're a Harry Potter fan and want to have a Harry Potter themed room, but don't have lots of spare money for it? Or maybe, you just want some ideas!

Steps

Choosing a color theme for the room

  1. Choose a color to paint your room. Choose the colors of your favorite Hogwarts house to show off your personality. The colors are:
    • Scarlet and gold for Gryffindor
    • Canary yellow and black for Hufflepuff
    • Blue and silver(movie version) or blue and bronze(book version) for Ravenclaw
    • Green and silver for Slytherin.
  2. If you're really dedicated and have enough money, then paint a mural. It will take up a big part of the room, and it will certainly imply that you're a Harry Potter fan. Plus, it'll look pretty awesome!

Decorating the room

  1. Decorate your room. You can decorate it with banners that match the color of the room, or you could use authentic-looking items that were used in the books or movies. Or, if you don't have a lot of money, you can just decorate your walls with posters. Another thing you can do is get some statues or toys of your house's animal! The house animals are:
    • Gryffindor: Lion
    • Hufflepuff: Badger
    • Ravenclaw: Eagle
    • Slytherin: Serpent.
  2. Put up all the movie posters on your wall and different variations of them so you won't just have seven posters, eight for parts one and two.
    • You can even make make your own. If you're good at drawing, draw a picture of your favorite character. Or just write the name of the house you're in, using a marker.
  3. Add soft furnishings. For your bed, you can put curtains around it if you have the space, just like the students in your dormitory do. You can also change the sheets of your bed to your favorite house color.
    • Get Harry Potter pillows, bedsheets, etc. Etsy is a good place to look. However, you may find this is over-the-top to add Harry Potter bedding, so don't worry if you don't want it.
  4. Place books on shelves. If you have a bookshelf, put your Harry Potter books on top, so people know you treasure them (You can also put the movies too.).
    • Display your Harry Potter books and movies. It looks best if the books are in hardcover. There are many ways to display them; you could put them all on the top shelf of a bookshelf, or even get a special shelf just for them. Put them in a place where people coming in your room will notice them right away.
  5. Put a sign on your door that has a picture of your favourite character or house emblem.
  6. Put Harry Potter things around your room such as the things mentioned in the tips. There are some other ideas too like taking a regular broomstick, and painting it to look a little fancier, or for the spell books, put a fancy book cover on your books. You can also paint a stick to make it look like a wand if you don't have one.
  7. Hang up HP pictures on a bulletin board. You can draw your own or print some off the internet. You could even show of pictures of you at Harry Potter World in Orlando or your Hermione Granger Halloween costume.
  8. Hang Hogwarts robes in your closet. Or even better, have a hook somewhere outside your closet and hang the robes on that.
    • If you put them in the closet make sure the closet doors are open when company comes over.
  9. Add in some really cool stuff. Have an old trunk like the ones they bring to Hogwarts? Set it near your bed and use it as a toy chest.
    • Have a stuffed animal owl? Put it somewhere where people can see it.
    • Have a Harry Potter wand? Set it on your nightstand.
    • You could even hang a Firebolt or Nimbus 2000 on the wall.
  10. Enjoy your Harry Potter themed bedroom!

Tips

  • Check out a few blogs like Hogtimes (Wordpress) that have articles in them.
  • You can make cool posters on your computer about all the quotes of the books and place them on your wall.
  • You can buy many Harry Potter related things, from light shades to duvet covers to wands and time turners! You name it, and if you look hard enough (or say Accio loudly enough) you will probably find it in Harry Potter!
  • Paint little gold, bronze or silver details around the room. maybe you can even write some of the character names or quotes of the books and movies.
  • You may want to go to www.harrypottershop.com for props and sheets and other stuff.
  • Your room doesn't have to be only Harry Potter themed!
  • A crystal ball - from an old round light and place on top of the bottom of a sprite/coke bottle to be the holder.
  • If you want you could make your own trolley half-way though a wall, with a sign which signifies platform nine and three quarters.
  • Whenever you go to the store and see something cool in your house colors, buy it. For example, a red and gold storage bin or some Hufflepuff yellow curtains.
  • If you don't know what house you're in, take a sorting hat quiz, such as Pottermore. If you want to be extra accurate, you could even take it on September first, the year you would have gone to Hogwarts.
  • Be flexible. It may not turn out exactly as you wanted, in which case just edit your plan.
  • Write "Dumble" on your bedroom door if you're a fan of puns.
  • Using old books, spray-paint them brown so they can resemble magic books.
  • Use old science tubes and place fake slime to resemble fluid. You can find slime in toy shops or buy it from Amazon.

Warnings

  • Some people might laugh, in which case say nothing. They are just jealous of your cool room!
