Celebrate Eid ul Fitr

Eid, popularly known as "Eid-ul-Fitr" is the holy festival of Muslims to celebrate festivity. Eid is a Muslim holiday which falls after the holy month of Ramadan in which the Muslims keep fast (Sawm). Muslims celebrate Eid on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. 'Eid' means festivity in Arabic so the festival is all about celebration from the core of your heart.

Steps

  1. Go shopping for this day, and buy food items and clothes. People buy variety of items which includes gifts, sweets, clothes, food items etc. before eid.
  2. Take a bath and dress in clean clothes.
  3. Give Zakaat al fitr to the needy.
  4. Exchange gifts with your friends.
  5. It's desirable to come out to the prayer-place on Eid al-Fitr after eating some dates, because of the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari from Anas ibn Maalik who said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would not go out on the morning of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten some dates… and he would eat an odd number.”(Bukhaari, 953)
  6. Offer Salah early in the morning in an Eidgah with other Muslims. Listen to the Khutbah (Eid speech).
  7. Go out one by one route and come back by another for Eid prayers
  8. ->Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may God be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) used to vary his routes on the day of Eid.(Bukhaari)
  9. ->It was said that this was so that the two different routes would testify in his favour on the Day of Resurrection, because on that Day the earth will speak about everything that was done on it, good and evil.
  10. Hug people. This festival has a feeling of brotherhood in it. All the persons hug each other on this day regardless of caste or creed.
  11. Pray. Eid prayer consists of a sermon followed by a short congregational prayer. After the prayers, start visiting your relatives, eat sweets and 'sewaiyan', give gifts to children, donate something to the poor and needy and shower blessings and love upon everybody.
  12. Get children involved. Children enjoy the festival by wearing new clothes and playing games. Children also create handmade Eid greeting cards and present them to their family and friends.
  13. In some cultures mehndi (henna) is an important part of eid celebrations. Females in general decorate their hands with henna on the night before Eid.
  14. If you aren't Muslim, make a program with your Muslim friends and join the feast! You will have a blast; it's not ONLY prayers, prayers, prayers but it's about talking and socializing with friends and family.
  15. If you are Muslim, invite your non-Muslim and Muslim friends over for the feast and explain the festival.

Warnings

  • Don't forget to pray Salaah at the proper times.
  • Don't spend extravagantly and show-off as it's prohibited in Islam.
  • Some people think that Islam tells us to stay up and pray on the night of Eid, quoting an unsound hadeeth which says that “whoever stays up and prays on the night of Eid, his heart will not die on the day when hearts die.” This hadeeth was reported with two isnaads, one of which is da’eef (weak), and the other is very da’eef. Islam does not tell us to single out the night of Eid for staying up and praying; if, however, a person habitually stays up and prays at night (qiyaam), there is nothing wrong with him doing so on the night of Eid as well.
  • Women should avoid adornment when they go out for Eid, because they are prohibited from showing their adornment in front of non-mahram men. A woman who wants to go out is forbidden to wear perfume or to show off in a tempting way in front of men, because she is only going out for the purpose of worship.
  • Don't indulge in any unislamic activity like music, drinking, attending mixed-gender gatherings etc.
