Change the Input Method for Android

Using the wrong keyboard for your style of typing can waste time and cause unnecessary irritation. There are many different keyboards available for Android, including the built-in android keyboard. Swiftkey and Swype are two popular examples of downloadable keyboard apps which can replace the keyboard your phone or tablet currently uses. Once you download one of these, you'll need to switch your input method to use it.

Steps

  1. Make sure that you are on the Home Screen. Tap on the home button.
  2. Open the keyboard. The simplest way of doing this is by clicking on the Google Search Bar. If your phone has a search button, tap it.
    • You can use any textbox, but the search bar is the most convenient.
  3. Pull down from the top of the screen to show the Notification Bar.
  4. Tap on "Select Input Method,"
  5. Choose an input method that isn't currently selected. Your android phone or tablet will now use this method.

Tips

  • Swype (or an alternative swipe-style keyboard) is a good input method for typing fast, but may take some time to get used to.
  • Using "Google Voice Typing" as an input method is a good idea when your hands are occupied such as when you're driving.
