Change the Keyboard Language of a Mac
Need to type in another language on your Mac? You can change the input language of your keyboard to a wide variety of languages, and you can switch between them with a few clicks or keystrokes. You can also have multiple languages enabled, allowing you to switch back and forth whenever you choose.
Steps
- Click the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
- Click Keyboard.
- Click the Input Sources tab.
- Click the "+" button to search for languages to add.
- Check the box for each input source you want to use. You can add multiple input sources.
- Check the "Show Input menu in menu bar" box. A flag icon representing the current input will appear in the menu bar.
- Click the flag to change input languages. You'll be able to quickly select from any of the input sources you've checked.
- Use keyboard shortcuts to change between languages.
- Command + Space - Switch to previous input language
- Command + Option + Space - Switch to next input language
Tips
- If the keyboard shortcuts open Spotlight Search instead, return to the Input Sources tab of the "Language & Text" menu. Click the Template:MacButton button and then select "Spotlight Search". Uncheck the boxes and then select "Keyboard & Text Input". Check the "Select the previous input source" and "Select the next source in Input menu" boxes.
