Check What Kind of Android Phone You Have

If you need to know what kind of Android phone you are currently using, there are two basic things that are important: the model number and the version of Android the phone is using. You can usually find the model number printed on the phone itself, but to find the Android version you'll need to use the phone's "About" menu. This menu can also help you find the model number if you're having difficulty finding the printed one.

Steps

Physically Inspecting Your Phone

  1. Turn the phone over so that you're looking at the back. Most Android phones have the model information printed on the back of the phone's body.
    • Make sure to remove the phone from its protective case if you are using one.
  2. Look at the bottom of the back of the phone. The model number should be printed here. The text is usually very small, so you may have to hold the phone close or use a magnifying glass to read it easily.
    • The model number may not make much sense when you look at it, as it is usually a combination of letters and numbers. Looking this number up online however will direct you to resources about your particular phone.
  3. Remove the back and take out the battery (if possible). If your Android phone has a removable battery, the phone's model number may be on a sticker located behind the battery. Taking the battery out will allow you to see the sticker.
    • Not all Android phones have removable batteries.
  4. Check the next section if you can't find the model. If the phone's model number isn't printed on the back of the phone or under the battery, you will need to check your phone's "About" menu.

Checking Your Phone's "About" Menu

  1. Open the Settings app. You can tap the Settings icon on your Home screen, or press the phone's Menu button and select "Settings".
    • Your phone's "About" menu will not only display the model, but also the manufacturer and Android version.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the list and select "About phone/About device".
    • If your Settings menu has multiple tabs, select the "General" tab first.
  3. Look for the "Model number" entry. This should inform you what model phone you are using.
    • The model number may not make much sense when you look at it, as it is usually a combination of letters and numbers. Looking this number up online however will direct you to resources about your particular phone.
  4. Check the "System information" entry. This will tell you the manufacturer of your phone.
  5. Check the "Android version" entry. This will tell you what version of Android your phone is running.
