Choose the Perfect Outfit For The First Day Of School

On the first day of school, it can help to dress well. Obviously, you always want to look nice, but it's always a must to look good on your first day of school!

Steps

  1. Go shopping for a new top. Wearing something that gives people a new and refreshed feeling, and that's exactly what the first day of school is about. Don't just go for something that everybody is wearing at the moment because it is "in fashion", choose something that really expresses your personality so people can see what you're like looking only at your outfit. Here are some ideas:
    • If you are someone who is shy but friendly, choose a pale color like lilac, pale yellow, baby blue, or baby/light pink.
    • If you are an outgoing, sunny person, choose a bright color like hot pink, bright sunshine-y yellow, or orange.
    • If you are more of a hippie, go with what you like to wear. The hippie style is one that is very reflective of your personality.
    • If you want to show your more serious side, wear a dark top. Try avoiding black, because it isn't the most bright color for school and it can give people the wrong impression. If black is not your really your thing, you could try wearing navy blue, dark green, or a dark purple.
  2. The bottom part of your outfit is important too. Wearing a skirt shows your girly side; shorts show that you're confident, fun, and outgoing; and casual jeans show that you are, well, relaxed! Wearing what you feel comfortable in is a great rule of thumb, because you want to show who YOU are, not who someone else might be.
  3. Buy some nice accessories. It's always a good idea to wear accessories. It adds an extra piece to your ensemble, and can really make the outfit. Just be cautious of overdoing it, because after all, it's school, not a fashion show.
  4. Don't forget your hair. Remember, your personality is key. Do what you like to do with your hair, whether you straighten it, curl it, put it in a bun, or let it hang loose! Even throw it in a ponytail or braid. Whatever shows your inside and unique personality! But if a bad hair day comes up, put it in a messy bun and pin up your bangs (if you have any). Then just spray it with hairspray to let it hold. It looks super cute and will cover up any parts you want to hide.
  5. Make sure that you have a pair of shoes that will match almost any outfit. This will make it easier when picking your clothes. But don't forget, its your personality. Be creative! Wear closed or open-toed shoes, anything that you think would look nice and match your clothes.
  6. Makeup. When you go to school, never go overboard on makeup. Just wear a little bit of what you think brings out your best features. This could be mascara, lip-gloss, eyeshadow, eye liner, cover-up, or any combination of these. But remember, don't put too much cover up on, or your face might end up looking orange. Just keep makeup minimal and pick colors that express yourself.
  7. Personality. Give yourself a pep talk before your first day (and everyday for that matter) of school so that your confidence is on fire. Be proud and start your day off like that and nothing can go wrong. Style isn't just about how you look, it's about how you feel. Love yourself and fashion will love you back.

Tips

  • You should always try to coordinate the colors. That does not mean wear everything hot pink! Suppose you're wearing a pink shirt with a yellow heart on it, wear a bracelet or scarf that's yellow. Bring out the accent colors in accessories!
  • Be confident! Your outfit is nothing unless you know you love yourself in it!
  • Make sure to change up your style. Don't wear jeans and a t-shirt everyday. Wear shorts, skirts, dresses, and nice tops every once in a while so people will be surprised. You don't want people to know what to expect!
  • If you are comfortable without makeup, then good for you! However, if you feel more comfortable with it, then it is always nice to put a little bit on. Just try not to overdo it, because makeup is designed to bring out your natural beauty, not to make you look like someone else (unless it's costume make up that is, but you wouldn't want to wear that for school!)
  • Start with something not too fancy. Get a feel for what you like. But make sure you don't follow the crowd- be yourself! You are beautiful and unique!
  • Bring out the small details. By pulling out a color from an accessory and translating that into your outfit, it really shows that you know what you are doing.
  • Remember, if it doesn't comply with the dress code in your school, don't wear it.
  • If you are wearing an outfit that's full of happy colors and cool designs and you're walking around being quiet and none social it gives people the wrong idea about who you are. Try to reflect your outfit... school is a place where everything you do is personalized; so even if you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, if your outfit choice tells everyone around you that you are are usually smiling, you probably should at least Try to grin.
  • A good trick is to wear your second best outfit on the first day, and your best outfit on the second. Most people tend to do the opposite, and this is a creative way of being unique!
  • A good rule of thumb is, if you're on the fence with a piece of clothing, and whether or not it's appropriate, it most likely isn't.
  • When you want some personality added beyond your outfit think of little things like your school supplies. Happy designed pencils with striped and polka dotted erasers. Even get a wonky pencil case with crazy designs that reflect on yourself. Style doesn't just come in clothing, everything else that you do to represent yourself counts too.
  • Don't just dress nice for the first day of school!
  • Be careful of blacks, because it can sometimes give off the wrong impression. But definitely go for black if you feel like black would go well with what you're wearing!
  • If there is a color on your shirt that you can hardly see (like a purple flower on a mostly blue shirt) bring it out by adding an accessory of that color! Looks super nice!

Warnings

  • Try not to mix loose shirts with loose pants, because they tend to look overdone. It is a good idea to wear either tighter pants with a looser shirt, or looser pants with a tighter shirt, because it's much more pleasing to the eye.
  • You're bound to get the loose comment on how someone told someone that they thought that your outfit wasn't cute enough, or that the colour you were wearing makes you look fat. Remember that you are the only person who's opinion matters when it comes to your fashion, their opinions are just whispers compared to your style that's shouting "This is me world, make room!".
  • Try not to go overboard with accessories and makeup. Remember, less is often much more.
