Chop Basil Leaves
Fresh herbs add a rich flavor to many dishes. To preserve the maximum amount of flavor, you can cut leaves a particular way. This technique is most effective with basil leaves, but can be applied to other herbs.
Steps
- Stack basil leaves, so that you have a pile about 5 leaves tall.
- Roll your stack, starting at the stem and moving towards the tip of the leaf.
- Slice your roll with a sharp knife, as though you were slicing a loaf of bread.

- Pick leaves right before use if possible.
