Create Applications for the Mac App Store

The recently launched Mac App Store for Apple’s line of desktop and laptop Mac computers is now accepting apps submissions from members of the Mac Developer Program. This article will guide you through the process of registering for the Mac Developer Program and creating applications for the Mac App Store.

Steps

  1. Make sure your Mac meets the minimum technical requirements. In order to develop apps for the Mac App Store you must have an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or later.
  2. Go to the Apple Developer Programs enroll page.
  3. Click the “Start Your Enrollment” button in the bottom of the page to get started.
  4. At the sign-in page, click the link at the bottom "Create yours now" to create a new Apple ID. If you want to use an existing Apple ID, login with your existing Apple ID instead of creating a new.
  5. Create your Apple ID. Add the required details to create your Apple ID. You will need to enter your Name, Country, Date of Birth, Email & Phone. Email and phone will need to be verified in later steps.
  6. After entering all the details, fill the captcha and click "Continue" button at the bottom.
  7. Verify your Email. Apple will send you a verification code on your email. You will need to verify your email address by typing that code in the verification window. Once you have entered the code, click "Continue" button
  8. Verify your phone. Apple will send you a verification code on your phone. You will need to verify your phone by typing that code in the verification window. Once you have entered the code, click "Continue" button
  9. Review the "Apple Developer Agreement" and scroll to the bottom of window.
  10. Agree to the agreement by clicking the checkbox at the bottom of window and click "Submit" button.
  11. Confirm your personal information on this form including of your Name, Contact phone, Address.
  12. Click the dropdown list and select your entity type. You have the options of Individual, Company, Non-Profit, Educational or Govt. organization. Select individual unless the purchase belongs to any of the mentioned organizations.
  13. After selecting the entity type, click the "Continue" button at bottom right of the window.
  14. Review the "Apple Developer Program License Agreement" and scroll to the bottom of window.
  15. Agree to the "Apple Developer Program License Agreement" by clicking the checkbox at the bottom of window and click "Continue" button.
  16. Review your membership details in the purchase window and click the "Purchase" button at bottom right of the window.
  17. Confirm your credit card info to purchase the program you selected in the earlier step.
  18. Complete the process by activating the program. Click the activation code link in the window for activating the program.

Tips

  • You can open Launchpad in OS X Lion using custom shortcuts or hot corners by setting them in System Preferences.
  • Swipe between pages of apps in Launchpad by clicking and holding your mouse while making a swiping gesture left or right, or use a two finger gesture on your trackpad.

Warnings

  • OS X Lion is only available as a downloadable upgrade through the Mac App Store.
