Decide What Lift to Get on Your Jeep Wrangler

Are you trying to decide what lift to get on your Jeep Wrangler? Here are a few things to think about when deciding to lift your Jeep.

Steps

  1. You should first decide what is the purpose of lifting your Jeep Wrangler. Is it to just look cool? Is it to put bigger tires on? Is it to become more off-road capable?
  2. Decide if you are going to be installing any or part of the lift yourself. Do you have the tools to do so? Do you have the time?
  3. Decide how much money you can spend. It is better to save longer and get the right lift than to get a so-so lift now and upgrade later.
  4. Decide how much lift and how big of tires you want. Look at tons of Jeep Wranglers with lifts on the web. There are certain websites that provide images of Wranglers with different lifts with different sized tires.
  5. Decide what lift to get. Research the different brands of lifts. There are differing levels of quality with different lifts. The more you spend the better the quality.
  6. Determine what 'other' parts you are going to need. If you get a sufficient sized lift you will need more 'other' parts. Some lifts require adjustable control arms, transfer case drops, slip yoke eliminator kits w/ new drive-shaft, longer brake lines, adjustable trackbar, swaybar disconnects, etc. If you get large enough tires you will also want to regear the axles.
  7. Once you have determined everything you need you can compare your funds with what you need. Be sure to get everything 'needed' or you will sacrifice safety.
