Change the Windshield Wipers on a Hyundai Accent

Windshield wipers of your car should be changed annually or every time you notice that the wipers leave patches on the windshield after using them. Sometimes you might need to change the motor of the wipers too if you have been using the car for a long time.

Steps

Here are the steps to change the windshield wipers of your Hyundai Accent:

  1. Begin with the wiper on the driver’s side. The wiper blades are fastened to the arm of the wipers with a small clip. Unclip the blades by pushing it towards the arms while pushing the blade backwards.
  2. Once you have done that, push the blade down the arm till a hook on one end is visible. Once the hook end is visible, it means that the blade is free and can be detached.
  3. Take a new blade and place it in such a way that the hook of the new one is towards the wiper attachment. Place the hook over the attachment on the driver’s side of your Hyundai Accent petrol or diesel variant.
  4. Once you have pushed the blade over the attachment, pull it towards you till it clicks into place.
  5. Repeat the same process for the windshield wiper on the front passenger's side of your Hyundai Accent.

The following are the instructions in case you need to change the wiper’s motor. You will need a socket set, socket wrench and pliers

  1. Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Then disconnect the electronic connector of the motor.
  3. Loosen the motor from the firewall by removing the bolts that hold it there.
  4. Take the motor as far as you can from the firewall. You don’t need to detach it completely; a part of it will still be attached to the wiper assembly at this point.
  5. Pluck out the fastener from behind the motor. Place the pliers between the motor and the pivot arm with which it is connected and slowly push them apart separating them.
  6. Then replace it by attaching the new wiper motor of Hyundai Accent to the pivot arm. Then reverse the removal process to complete the installation.

Tips

  • Remember that the wiper on the driver’s side of your Hyundai Accent diesel or petrol variant is larger than the one on the front passenger’s side. Keep this in mind when purchasing the new set.
  • Always change both the wipers and not just one, even if only one of them is leaving patches. It is likely that the other one will wear out soon.
  • Even if your wipers show no sign of wearing out or you haven’t used them much, replace them annually. Even sun can wear your wiper out.

Warnings

  • The well functioning set of wipers will keep your windshield clean and free of patches. So make sure you replace them regularly.
