Download iTunes Purchases to an iPhone

This article teaches you how to re-download apps and music that you've previously purchased and then deleted from your iPhone.

Steps

Re-Downloading Apps

  1. Open your iPhone's App Store. This app is light blue with an "A" made from writing utensils. You'll likely find it on your iPhone's Home Screen.
  2. Tap Updates. It's in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap Purchased. This option is at the top of the page.
  4. Tap My Purchases. It's the top option on this page.
    • If you're using an iPhone 5s or older, skip this step.
  5. Tap Not on This iPhone. This tab is at the top of the page and to the right of the All tab. You'll find all of the apps that you've purchased using your iPhone in the past on this page.
  6. Find the app you wish to re-download. The apps on this page are sorted from most- to least-recent, so you may need to scroll down.
    • Re-downloading an app will not require you to pay for it again.
  7. Tap the cloud icon. It's to the right of your desired app; tapping this icon will prompt the app to begin downloading to your iPhone.

Re-Downloading Music

  1. Open the iTunes Store. This app is purple with a white-encircled musical note.
    • This app is different than the Music app or the App Store.
  2. Tap More. It's in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap Purchased. This option is near the top of the screen.
  4. Tap Music. It's the top option on this page.
  5. Tap Not on This iPhone. You'll see this tab in the top-right side of the screen.
  6. Tap an artist's name. Doing so will take you to their page, from which you can re-download an album or a specific song.
  7. Tap the cloud icon to the right of a song or album. This icon will have a blue arrow pointing downward. Tapping this option will download the selected music back into your Music app.
    • You'll see the word "DOWNLOADED" appear where the cloud icon was once the music finishes downloading.
  8. Press your iPhone's Home button. This will minimize the iTunes Store.
  9. Open Music. It's a white app with a multicolored musical note on it.
  10. Look for your re-downloaded music in the "Recently Added" section. When you open Music, it opens to a page with a "Recently Added" section near the bottom of the screen; your song or album should be listed here.
    • You may first have to tap Library in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
    • If you don't see the music you just downloaded in the "Recently Added" section, tap Search in the bottom-right corner of the screen and type in the song or album's name. This will locate the music in your Library.

Tips

  • This process will work on an iPad as well.
  • You can't re-download music from the App Store, but you can Add-Music-to-iPhone.
