Draw a Manga Dog
If you're making a manga comic, there's nothing like a little puppy love to spice it up! Follow these instructions to create a perfectly cute manga dog that can be a wonderful sidekick to any manga character. This version of the dog is standing up, but you can manipulate the structure to have your dog in any pose, from sitting to running.
Steps
- Learn about the dog's body structure.
- Sketch the wireframe of the dog's body.
- Use shapes to sketch the dog's figure.
- Sketch additional details to complete the rough sketch of the dog.
- Refine the sketch with a smaller tipped drawing tool.
- Draw the outline over the sketch.
- Remove and erase the sketch marks.
- Add color.
Tips
- If you want your dog to have an angry look, make two lines across the muzzle to show the bunching of the skin, and make the dog show its teeth.
- The eyes are what show that the dog is not human. All the eyes need to be is black pupil with one glare. If you worry too much about adding an iris or multiple glares, your dog will take on a human, not a dog, look!
- With fur, a little goes a long way. Don't worry too much about drawing each individual hair; instead, just make the outline rugged to suggest fur.
Warnings
- Drawing anything is a hard art to master, so don't be too annoyed if it takes a few attempts to get the dog right. Never give up! Just keep trying!
Things You'll Need
- A sharp pencil; you may also wish to have a second pencil for shading.
- An eraser. It can be any brand as long as it works well. You also might want to consider the benefits of a thin eraser, because it allows you to erase with more precision.
