Draw a Skull

Knowing how to draw a skull can help you out if you want to draw realistic looking people.

Steps

Front-View Skull

  1. Draw a circle.
  2. Draw a barrel shape below the circle.
  3. Add the cheek bones on each side of the circle. Draw a crossed line at the center.
  4. Draw two small stretched circles for the eye sockets. Add two thin triangular shapes where the nose is supposedly located.
  5. Draw the cheekbone and the maxilla.
  6. Draw the mandible. Add short vertical lines for the teeth.
  7. Add a vertical line on the sides of the forehead to make the anterior structures appear protruded.
  8. Erase unnecessary lines.
  9. Color your drawing.

Method Two: Side-View Skull

  1. Draw an oblong.
  2. Draw a U-shape on the right side of your oblong.
  3. Draw the sockets for the eyes and nose.
  4. Draw the maxilla and mandible using small straight strokes.
  5. Draw the cheek bone.
  6. Darken the outline of the skull.
  7. Draw small vertical lines for the teeth. Add details to the skull as you wish to make it more realistic.
  8. Erase unnecessary lines.
  9. Color your drawing.

Method Three: Skull

  1. Look at a picture of a skull, get a feeling for how it looks.
  2. Take a pencil and lightly draw a circle.
  3. If you wish to draw the skull facing you, make a horizontal line and a vertical line that go through the circle, then draw two vertical lines on the left and right side of the skull. (See illustration for further reference)
  4. Make an angled "U" shape at the bottom, closing in the chin.
  5. Two large circles near the middle of the circle will represent eye sockets, as well as a triangle for the nose.
  6. Draw lines for the mouth, and then teeth. These can be rearranged depending on how your person will look.
  7. Erase excess lines, and darken your drawing.
  8. Use a shading pencil to shade in the eye sockets and nose.
  9. Practice! Try using shading once you get good at this.
