Endo a Pedal Bike

Have you ever wanted to do some bicycle tricks but never knew what trick to start out with? What you have to do is pull the front brake as hard as you can and let the back wheel rise up. This will take some practice but is one of the easiest bike tricks to do when you get the hang of it. It is also good for gaining confidence when using the front brake, an essential part of stopping a bike quickly.

Steps

  1. Inspect your bike and make sure the everything works properly. Brakes, handlebars, headset, pedals and drivetrain are the most important, any fault in any of those parts is dangerous. Drop the seat for now, you won't need it and it could get in the way. Later, you can try the same trick with the seat in the normal position.
  2. Switch to a low gear. Make sure you know what your dominant foot is.
  3. Start off at a walking pace and then pull the front brake while standing on the pedals. The front wheel should stop, turning forward movement into rotation. Start off small and try different body positions. If things get out of control, just let go of the brake and the rear wheel should come back down unless the center of mass if forward of the front wheel hub.
  4. Work your way up to faster speeds and greater heights.

Tips

  • Don't practice on gravel, the front wheel can slip. A secluded and open area of dirt or grass is the best place for practicing this trick. Pavement is hard, crashing onto a surface like that will hurt and probably cause injuries.
  • Since there is a good chance of going over the bars and crashing in other ways, wearing a helmet and other safety gear is a smart choice.
  • To practice maximizing the effectiveness of your braking, try braking with both brakes so that the rear wheel barely lifts off the ground.

Warnings

  • Don't brake too hard or lean too far forward. Doing that makes it very easy to go over the bars.
