Make a Rear Bike Mount

Many things are used to carry items on bicycles, this being one.

Steps

  1. Use a small piece of 2x4 stock, cut to a length suitable for your use (.2 to .9m). Yellow pine is best, though scraps of hardwood (thickness is important) are very good.
  2. In a vertical position, measure the angle formed by your seat post (i.e. 10 degrees from vertical or 80 degrees off horizontal).
  3. Drill a hole the precise diameter of your seat post about 37 to 77 mm from the end and the selfsame angle.
  4. Slide over post.
  5. Hold bike straight and see level and square position of your build. This may not work the first time, though you will see where you stand.
  6. Put a screw or a lag on either side of the horizontal bar or a clamp above the rear brake. One can easily carry a fellow traveler, with the right stock. If you've an eye to saddle bags,a 2x6 should do nicely.
