Unlock an oBike

oBikes are a dockless bike-sharing system. The company went bankrupt and the official app may not work anymore. This article aims to provide an alternative method for using the bikes. In this method, you’ll detach the lock by exposing the lock’s motor pins and applying electrical current to pop it open.

Steps

  1. Use a basic screwdriver to remove the cover that protects the screws.Screwdriver's with an flat surface is said to be more effective.
  2. Use a T25 bit (with hole–also known as Torx Security,The T25 Beta is under the Focus T25. This comes right after the Alpha phase, with Beta being a bit tougher.) to unscrew the 4 screws.
  3. Check at the lock if it is detached from the frame now.
  4. Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the 2 screws of the battery case and open it.
  5. Take the battery out (usually from the right side where no wires are attached). Optionally detach the battery connector (e.g. using a basic screwdriver).
  6. Prepare a ~2-4V voltage source. Try 2x1.5V AA batteries in a row; 1 alone may be too weak to drive the motor.
    • Connect the negative terminal (ground / black wire) to the yellow wire.
    • Connect the positive terminal (plus / red wire) to the green wire simultaneously.
  7. Touch the pins briefly. This is enough to drive the lock’s motor, which releases the lock.
