Get Real Time Traffic Information on Your Phone in Florida

The State of Florida has some of the worst traffic congestion in the United States, with Orlando, Miami and Tampa Bay all among the most congested cities nationally. Drivers armed with accurate real-time traffic information can avoid congestion and crashes by leaving at a different time or choosing a different route, but how do you get traffic information on your roadway and your schedule?

Steps

  1. Dial 511 from any cell phone or landline phone within the State of Florida, regardless of where the phone is from or the phone number.
  2. Say English or Español to set your language preference for the call.
  3. Say the name of a Florida 511 Covered Roadway: Covered Roadways include all interstate highways in the state, Florida's Turnpike mainline and other roadways, Miami-Dade Expressway Authority roadways, Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority roadways, and other highways in major metropolitan areas. You can ask for a roadway in several ways, for example, Interstate 4 or I-4.
  4. Say a City name, County name, Exit number or Mile Marker number (for example, Jacksonville, Orange County, exit {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} marker 210).
  5. The system will report any unusual conditions in that area.
  6. To check on another roadway, say Main Menu and ask for the new roadway.

Tips

  • Speak as clearly as possible and minimize any background noise – including radios, open windows, air conditioning and other people talking.
  • Say Traffic, Travel Times, Public Transit, Airports and Seaports, or Other Options, to receive the information you need.
  • Say Next, Previous, Stop, or Repeat to navigate through the phone menus quickly.

  • Say Help if you need more instruction.
  • Callers can switch to touch-tone mode by pressing 88 at any time during their call.
