Get a Minecraft Pet

Pets in Minecraft offer practical purposes as well as aesthetic. Ocelots, for examples, will cause creepers to walk in the other directions, and wolves will attack anything that you attack or anything that hurts you. Go to step one to find out how to get a pet.

Steps

Ocelots

  1. Fish a lot of fish. Depending on your success rates and skill in catching ocelots, you will need anywhere from 4-16 raw fish.
  2. Find an ocelot. These are located in most jungles, however these can be located far away from your home, so build some temporary shelters along the way.
  3. Approach the ocelot slowly. Even if you go at the player's normal speed, it will run away from you. Approach it while holding the fish and slowly. if it creeps toward you, don't move. If you don't move, you can right click it and after an unknown amount of fish it will soon switch colors to either orange with stripes on it, tuxedo, or a Siamese pattern. The same will apply for cats.

Wolves

  1. Kill some skeletons. To tame wolves, you are going to need bones. The maximum bones you will need per wolf is 4, but bringing some extras in case of mistakes can be beneficial.
  2. Find the wolves. They are occasional found in oak and dark oak forests, but they can be surprisingly rare in the world, so keep hopping around until you find a forest with wolves in it.
  3. Feed the bones to the wolf. Simply hold right click whilst holding a bone, and hearts will appear. Do this until the wolf gets a red collar and you cannot feed it any more bones. Be careful not to right click and hit the wolf, however, for if you do, every wolf within a 64 block radius will become aggressive to you.
  4. Heal and breed your wolf! Feeding any meat to the wolf will heal it, and feeding it meat while another tamed wolf who was also fed is in the region will cause them to breed. If you need to heal your wolf, simply feed it meat without another wolf nearby

Farm animals

  1. Lure the animal into an enclosed area. Fences with a fence gate makes a great barrier, as you can still see the animals but they cannot jump over the blocks. This can be done by holding the respective food, they are as follows
    • Sheep - wheat
    • Pig - carrot
    • Cow and Mooshroom - wheat
    • Chicken - wheat seeds
  2. Enclose the area in which you lured the animals to. If you want to keep the animals you just lured, make sure they can't escape.
  3. Breed the animal. Using the same food that you lured the animal with, feed two of the animals and let them breed. You can then make more animals to breed with, and harvest the parents.

Tips

  • The angle at which a wolf's tail is at will indicate its health, with max health being at a 45 degree angle.
  • Rotten flesh can be fed to wolves with no negative side effects, unlike the famine effect you get from eating it.
  • Your pets will teleport to you making them useful if you are suddenly in danger.
  • Creepers are afraid of ocelots and cats, so they will make excellent creeper repellent.
  • Dogs will defend you no matter what. Use that chance in having a bodyguard.
  • If you do not want your pets to get hurt, make them sit at your house.*

Warnings

  • If you make your pets sit, it will not teleport to you.
  • Cats will repel creepers from a certain distance. That doesn't stop creepers from following you though.
  • Your pets may die. Use splash potions to heal them.
  • Dogs are smart enough not to attack creepers.
