Get an Uber Cancellation Charge Waived

This article teaches you how to request a refund from Uber if you were wrongly charged a cancellation fee. Uber’s policy is to charge $5 to $10 if a trip is canceled 5 or more minutes after a reservation is made, however, they may waive the fee if you are not at fault.

Steps

Using the Uber App

  1. Open the Uber app.
    • If you are not already signed in to your Uber account, sign in now.
  2. Tap . It’s in the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Tap Your Trips.
  4. Select the trip you wish to dispute.
  5. Tap Help. It’s just beneath the driver’s photo.
  6. Tap I was incorrectly charged a cancellation fee.[1]
  7. Select a reason for cancellation. Choose from one of the following options:[2]
    • My driver and I couldn’t connect
    • My pickup location was incorrect
    • My driver cancelled
    • The ETA was too long
    • The ETA was too short
    • My driver asked me to cancel
  8. Tap Submit. Uber will review your request and get back to you within a few days.[3]
    • Submitting a claim does not guarantee that the fee will be refunded.

Using the Uber Website

  1. Go to Uber’s fee cancellation page.
  2. Select a trip from the list.
    • If you are not already signed in to your Uber account, first click Sign In To Get Help and enter your account information. Then you will see a list of your trips.[4]
  3. Select a reason for cancellation. The available options are:
    • My driver and I couldn’t connect
    • My pickup location was incorrect
    • My driver cancelled
    • The ETA was too long
    • The ETA was too short
    • My driver asked me to cancel
  4. Click Submit. Uber will review your claim and get back to you within a few days.
    • Submitting a claim does not guarantee that the fee will be refunded.

Tips

  • Cancellation fee amounts vary by city. They usually range between $5 and $10.[5]
  • UberPOOL riders who are not at the pickup location within 2 minutes of when the driver arrives will be charged a non-refundable $2 fee.
