Get the Best Gas Mileage Your Vehicle Can Get

Most vehicles almost always get good to great gas mileage brand new, ever wonder after a while that stops, here are some suggestions to keep up on and increase your mileage without paying for higher octane fuel, and costly tune ups.

Steps

  1. No vehicle really needs high octane fuel unless specified in instruction manual, so stick with unleaded.
  2. Vehicles with too much stored in them does not contribute to good gas mileage, does not really use a lot more but the less work a vehicle does to accelerate, the less energy is needed to operate (keep it cleaned up).
  3. Accelerating fast at stop signs and red lights is not needed, the most you will profit from a faster take off from a dead stop is a few seconds, and you are using three times the gas needed every single time you do this, accelerate slow and gradually get to the speed desired.
  4. Proper inflated tires, most tires run at 40 psi, some a little less, keep proper air pressure as often as possible, if you think this does not matter, try riding a bicycle with a low tire and see how much more energy is needed, trust me, proper inflation is much better.
  5. As mentioned in (make any engine run its best) clean proper gaped plugs is always best, if a plug has build up of carbon on it it will not function as good and will use more fuel to get the job done.
  6. If you do not overdo it, things like octane boosters can help about 10-15 percent, but if over done can harm the engine, higher octane fuel is like humans eating a salad instead of potato chips, in other words good fuel usually uses less, i sometimes put about 1 once acetone to {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of fuel, so i use about 10 ounces of acetone as a booster in my mustang.
  7. Oil should be kept in clean to decent condition, if its black, change it, if its dark brown is close to needing changed, oil allows your pistons to move up and down more easily which means also more quickly and less friction is less frustration, clean oil allows this.
  8. Passing another cars should always be done on flat ground or downhill, downhill is really best if possible, NEVER uphill, when you pass don't try to do this from a dead stop, always be up to speed if possible, and always try to use draft zone, draft zone can be researched via web, it's a NASCAR secret.
  9. Speeds higher than 55 is always recommended to have side windows up, wind actually hits the back glass and actually slow the vehicle down, not a lot but if down isn't needed up is better.
  10. If sitting or parking briefly for more than one minute, vehicle uses more gas to idle than to start.
  11. Once you reach the desired speed, it is best to maintain that speed, slowing down and speeding up constantly uses more gas traveling anywhere you go, if nothing else use c-control, but careful going uphill when a computer is controlling the acceleration, uphill is crazy, just try it you'll see.
  12. If you run errands try to route the errands so that you are not making several trips to the same area over and over, if you can get it all done at once it will save you a lot of fuel, if you can not do what you have to.
  13. This one will actually sound crazy, but a catalytic converter actually saves a small portion of gas, what this exhaust piece does is it actually slows down the engine a tad no allowing the combustion stroke to come up as often, therefore using less gas, this also cuts back on the performance of the vehicle, so it is a trade off.
  14. High air flow air filter is also a slightly big deal, if the vehicle is not getting enough air not all fuel will be burned, some is wasted, check into a high flow filter and perhaps you may see a nice difference, if not chances are your vehicle is performing its best already.
  15. a few modifications can be made to the carburettor setting in your vehicle ( especially in bikes). try to make the mixture lean. but be careful , if you mess up the bike won't start until given the right setting
  16. carry half a tank of fuel. but this is not recommended in winters as it may give you a cold starting problem

Warnings

  • making the mixture lean may give cold starting problems
