Hack Into an iPod with the Lock Feature
If you have forgotten the code to your iPod, it may be possible to unlock it. You will need access to either a PC or a Mac. Your iPod must also have been previously synced to your computer. Un-synced iPods will not show up in iTunes without the password. Keep reading for more information on how to hack into an iPod with the lock feature.

Steps
PC Steps
- Connect the iPod to your PC using the supplied USB cord.
- Open iTunes if it did not open automatically. If you don't have iTunes skip ahead to #5
- Click the Options button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window.
- Click Enable USB Disk Use.
- Go to My Computer and select your iPod.
- Select Tools and click on the folder option.
- Select the View tab.
- Select Show hidden files and folders.
- Search for the "Ipod_Control" folder aka Settings
- Look in a folder that is sometimes called "Device" and find a file named "_locked".
- Change the file name "_locked" to "_unlocked".
- Your iPod should now operate normally.
Mac Steps
- Install MainMenu. This will allow you to see the invisible files.
- Connect the iPod to your Mac
- Open iTunes if it did not open automatically.
- Click on your iPod, go to the 1st section and check Enable Disk Use.
- In MainMenu, go to User, then click Show Hidden Files.
- Click the desktop and open up your iPod's HD.
- Search for the "Ipod_Control" folder aka Settings
- Look in a folder that is sometimes called "Device" and find a file named "_locked".
- Change the file name "_locked" to "_unlocked".
- Your iPod should now operate normally.
Tips
- This will not erase the songs on the iPod.
- If you would like to also reset the previous/old combination, try a soft reset and then you can key in a new combination after the iPod reboots with the Apple logo showing (tested with Nano, 4th Generation).
