Travel With an iPod
So you want to bring your iPod/Portable media player with you on a trip, eh? Good idea, especially if you're flying. If you're not sure how to keep it safe and what to do with it when you're at your destination, keep on reading. WikiHow is happy to help!
Steps
- Make sure your iPod/Portable media player is fully charged before you start your travels. That doesn't mean 80% charged but maybe 99.3% charged... Charge it completely, even if you don't think you'll need all the power. There are ways you can extend the battery of your iPod/Portable media player (for more information watch the video link posted in references.) You can also purchase a car or plug adapter for your iPod/Portable media player sometimes as low as $10 for both components.
- Put your device in a case. Before leaving home, purchase/find a new iPod/Portable media player case. To ensure the safety of this precious electronic, keep it in the case at all times, as it also prevents scratches and damaging. - If you're travelling by plane, turn it off when the plane is lifting into the air and landing. If you would like to listen to your iPod/Portable media player while travelling, keep it in a carry-on bag or in your pocket. If it is in a carry-on, never leave your carry-on and put it in a zipper/locked pocket.
- If you know you don't want to listen to music while travelling, to ensure its safety, keep it in your carry-on anyway. You would not want it to be stolen or broken by items in your luggage.
- If you choose to listen while travelling, make sure the volume does not bother others around you. Keeping the volume at 50% or even lower is the best bet. Show common courtesy to others around you.
- Keep your device safe once you have safely arrived at your destination. You're on a cruise/in a hotel room/ in a condo, etc. and you want to keep your iPod/Portable media player safe. Your best bet for keeping it safe is to lock it into your suitcase. Don't take a chance by taking it to the to an amusement park or anywhere unless you really need it.
- If you're going somewhere like the beach or other wet places, leave it in a locked suitcase in a waterproof container and not where your clothes or something might damage it.
- Enjoy music on your trip.
Tips
- Remember to bring your headphones/earphones! Sometimes, the earbuds or the wire may get ruined, so you may want to bring a spare, too.
- Make sure to bring your iPod/Portable media player charger, it is a good idea to pack a plug-in charger and a car charger.
- Good (and cheaper) iPod/Portable media player cases can be bought at your local Radio Shack.
- Good iPod/Portable media player cases can be bought at the Apple store.
- Consider using noise blocking earphones when on an airplane. It will greatly increase the comfort of your flight.
- Remember it takes 4 hours to charge. You might want to time your Buy an iPod so you know it's fully charged.
- If your battery life is not long enough to fulfill your whole ride then turn off the backlight and clip a book light onto it. It works wonders.
Warnings
- Lock your suitcases if it is accessible to others.
- Do not leave any carry-on luggage sitting around that has your iPod/Portable player media in it.
- If you can't avoid it, be extremely careful if you take your iPod/Portable media player to the beach. It could be susceptible to theft, water damage and much more.
- Keep your iPod/Portable media player in its case at all times.
- Never leave your iPod/Portable media player in plain sight.
- Keep your iPod/Portable media player close to you if possible, as lots of people like to steal or "borrow" iPods/Portable media players. It could be in your pocket and next thing you know, its gone! Some iPods/Portable media player have a lock-in feature. Turn this on for more security to your iPods/Portable media players! (Note: This feature can be disabled after syncing to another computer.)
- There was an article in Newsweek saying that listening to an iPod/Portable media player at 50% volume is OK for 2 hours or less. After that is when ear damage occurs.
